I-A SOFTBALL: Foley’s four-hitter leads Crusaders over Eagles
Mosie Foley spun a four-hitter and struck out 10 on Wednesday to lead Faith Lutheran’s softball team to a 3-1 win at Boulder City in a Division I-A Southern Region tournament winners’ bracket semifinal.
Foley didn’t allow a walk and surrendered only a second-inning run against the Sunrise League champions.
Makena Martin went 2-for-4 and scored two runs for the Crusaders (28-8), who will face Sierra Vista (16-7) in the winners’ bracket final at 5 p.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran.
Charlene Masterson tossed a six-hitter for the Eagles (24-9), who will face Sunrise Mountain (15-9) in an elimination game at 3 p.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran.
Sierra Vista 7, Spring Valley 1 — At Sierra Vista, Kalei Watkins tossed a seven-hitter and struck out 10 to guide the Mountain Lions by the Grizzlies in the other winners’ bracket semifinal.
Watkins went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, and Taylor DeGuzman was 3-for-4 with two runs for Sierra Vista.
Kira Felise went 2-for-3, and Adriana Sommerville was 2-for-4 for Sierra Vista, which led 6-1 after two innings.
Michaela Hood was 2-for-3 with a double, and Vivian Quiroz-Montano was 2-for-3 for Spring Valley (18-8), which will face Cheyenne (16-15) in an elimination game at 1 p.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran.
Sunrise Mountain 10, Chaparral 7 — At Sunrise Mountain, Sara Kinsey went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Zoey Ruiz was 2-for-2 with two RBIs to help the Miners eliminate the Cowboys.
Denise Terzoli and winning pitcher Andrea Garner each went 2-for-4 with a double for Sunrise Mountain, which led 6-1 after three innings.
Chaparral’s Losi Brown was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Alex Montoya went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Cowboys (13-16).
Cheyenne 13, Moapa Valley 7 — At Overton, winning pitcher Kaitlyn Dutton was 2-for-4 as the Desert Shields outlasted the Pirates in an elimination game.
Sabrina Stafford and Destiny Gain each went 2-for-5 for Cheyenne, which also got a double and two RBIs from Victoria Rosales.
DaniElle Russo had a triple and two RBIs for Moapa Valley (11-10).
