Roundup: Green Valley beats Sierra Vista in wild slugfest

Alyssa Vigil singled home Abigail Cordova with the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning Saturday to break a 15-15 tie and help Green Valley’s softball team top host Sierra Vista, 20-19 in six innings at the Mountain Lion/Blazer Classic.

Green Valley led 15-3 after the top of the third, but the Mountain Lions tied it in the bottom of the fifth with a grand slam from Ryan Watkins, who also had a double and six RBIs in the game, and an error to score the 15th run.

Cinthia Garcia had two doubles, three runs and five RBIs for the Gators, and Savannah Fabro had a triple, double and four runs.

Mia Buranamontri scored four times for the Mountain Lions.

Arbor View 11, Sierra Vista 7 — At Sierra Vista, Taylor Day was 3-for-3 with three doubles, three RBIs and a run scored as the Aggies topped the Mountain Lions in six innings of the Mountain Lion/Blazer classic.

Hannah Hickstein hit a double for the Aggies, who trailed 5-0 after two innings.

Daelynn Hilton hit a double for Sierra Vista.

Las Vegas 13, Legacy 6 — At Durango, Midajah Chavira hit a home run, double, and scored three times as the Wildcats took down the Longhorns in the Mountain Lion/Blazer Classic.

Kaitlyn Horstdaniel homered for the Wildcats, who got a double and three runs apiece from Angelina Visitacion and Sarina Ramirez. Skylar Gorrell also doubled for Las Vegas.

Angel Ortiz homerd and scored three runs for the Longhorns, and Kiani Tung had a double.

Las Vegas 6, Durango 6 — At Durango, Keely Thompson’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Trialblazers scored Trinity Valentine and tied the game and forced a tie against the Wildcats in the Mountain Lion/Blazer Classic.

Alex Geraldo and Destiny Cisneros doubled for the Trailblazers.

Angelina Visitacion homered for the Wildcats, and Skylar Gorrell hit a double.

Green Valley 15, John Muir (Calif.) 1 — At Sierra Vista, Savannah Fabro homered as the Gators blew out the Mustangs in three innings at the Mountain Lion/Blazer Classic.

Cristina De Los Angeles abd Olivia McClain each had two doubles for the Gators, and Hannah Mearideth, Cinthia Garcia, Alicia Irtega and Tyre Hilton each doubled.

Arbor View 16, John Muir (Calif.) 1 — At Sierra Vista, Torii Forsberg threw a complete game in the Aggies’ 6-0 win over the Mustangs in the Mountain Lion/Blazer Classic.

Roxanne Ines doubled for the Aggies, who scored 13 runs in the second inning.

Faith Lutheran 14, Pinewood (Calif.) 3 — At La Jolla, California, Maggie Whipple went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to help the Crusaders top the Panthers in four innings in the Duds by Dudes Tournament.

Hailey Hines was 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs for Faith Lutheran, which scored eight runs in the third inning to put away the game.

Ellie Fried was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, and Grace Hornsby was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI for the Crusaders. Natalie Behmer was 2-for-4 with two runs, and teammate Audrey Kirsch was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Faith Lutheran.

Tonopah 26-12, Mineral County 10-13 — At Hawthorne, the Muckers used a 10-run second inning in the opener to earn a split with the Serpents.

Tonopah also had an eight-run fifth inning in the first game.

In the nightcap, Mineral County overcame an 11-7 deficit in the final two innings to pull out the victory.
