ROUNDUP: Henzlik’s walk-off home run carries Centennial over Huskies

Madison Henzlik ripped a two-run home run to center field with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday to lift Centennial’s softball team to a 6-4 win over Chino Hills (Calif.) in the second round of the Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Ariz.

Chino Hills tied the game with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth then scored a go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning.

Mia Acuna’s two-out RBI single to left center tied it for the Bulldogs, and Henzlik followed with the game-ending hit.

Acuna went 3-for-4, and Henzlik was 2-for-5 for Centennial. Savannah Horvath was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Bulldogs.

Centennial 11, Gila Ridge (Ariz.) 1 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Lauren Stroman was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and the Bulldogs used an eight-run fourth inning to top Gila Ridge in the opening round of the Tournament of Champions.

Henzlik was 2-for-4 with a double, and Acuna was 1-for-4 with two RBIs for Centennial, which had every starter get at least one hit.

Cienega (Ariz.) 14, Coronado 6 —
 At Bullhead City, Ariz., Cienega scored the final nine runs of the game to top the Bulldogs in the Tournament of Champions.

Basia Query was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for Coronado. Haley Harrison was 2-for-2 with two runs, and Alex Battest went 1-for-3 with three RBIs for the Cougars.

Coronado 5, Mingus (Ariz.) 0 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Jaiden Johnson spun a four-hitter and struck out 11 to lead the Cougars by the Marauders in the Tournament of Champions.

Danielle Amato belted a two-run homer, and Query added a solo shot to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Amato was 2-for-2 with two runs, and Query was 2-for-3.

Foothill 7, Kofa (Ariz.) 0 —
At Bullhead City, Ariz., Aricia Dami threw a five-inning two-hitter with 12 strikeouts, and teammate Gabby Canibeyez went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Falcons to a shutout win in the opening round of the Tournament of Champions.

Alexia Campbell was 2-for-3 with a double, and Dami supplied an RBI double for Foothill.

Chino (Calif.) 1, Foothill 0 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Miranda Viramontes threw a one-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts, as Chino blanked the Falcons in the second round of the Tournament of Champions.

Ruby Barroso went 2-for-3 with and RBI double for Chino.

Sarah Maddox and Alexia Campbell each supplied a hit for Foothill.

Rancho 3, Faith Lutheran 0 — At Needles, Calif., McKinzi Vega went 1-for-2 with a home run as the Rams defeated the Crusaders in four innings in the Colorado River Invitational.

Brandy Marlett tossed a one-hitter and struck out four for Rancho.

Rancho 6, Legacy 0 — At Needles, Calif., Aly Lamboo tossed a five-inning one-hitter and struck out 10 as the Rams downed the Longhorns at the Colorado River Invitational.

Jacey Kelley and Jenna Tomashek each had a double for Rancho.

Kacey Munsell went 2-for-2 for Legacy.

Legacy 6, Palo Verde Valley (Calif.) 5 — At Needles, Calif., Alysia Santos hit a go-ahead, two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning, and the Longhorns defeated the Yellowjackets in six innings in the Colorado River Invitational.

Legacy trailed 4-1 heading into the fifth before Alyssa Sotello tied the game with a three-run homer.
Santos finished 2-for-3, and Sotello went 1-for-2.

Cheyenne 11, Moapa Valley 11 —
At Mesquite, Taylor Cole and Courtney Gain each went 3-for-4 to help the Desert Shields tied the Pirates in the Sherm Bennett Memorial Classic. 

Vanessa Sanders went 2-for-4 with a double for Cheyenne.

Summer Owens finished 3-for-4 with a double for Moapa Valley. Hanna Leavitt and Linna Hernandez each went 2-for-4 for the Pirates.
