ROUNDUP: Western snaps six-year losing streak with win over Pioneers
Amber Cosgrove went 2-for-3 with two RBIs Monday as Western’s softball team broke a 110-game losing streak with a 12-9 home win over Canyon Springs.
The Warriors scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win for the first time since a 10-9 victory over Tech on March 13, 2007.
Karina Cavada was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Pioneers.
Silverado 19, Sierra Vista 10 — At Sierra Vista, Riana Splinter went 5-for-7 with two home runs and two triples to lead the Skyhawks by the Mountain Lions.
Kaitlynn Crane was 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs for Silverado, which pounded out 24 hits.
Angel Love went 3-for-4 with a homer and five runs for Sierra VIsta.
Durango 6, Rancho 5 — At Durango, Kat Smith was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to force in the winning run as the Trailblazers nipped the Rams.
A walk and two Rancho errors loaded the bases for Smith as Durango completed a rally from a 5-1 fifth-inning deficit.
Aly Lamboo was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, and McKinzi Vega also homered for Rancho.
Valley 7, Cheyenne 5 — At Valley, Alexis Anderson went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to power the Vikings past the Desert Shields.
Vanessa Sanders was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a home run for Cheyenne.
Foothill 9, Pahrump Valley 4 — At Foothill, Lauren Penksa was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs as the Falcons topped the Trojans.
Sarah Maddox was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Foothill, and teammate Alexia Campbell added a single and two RBIs.
Arbor View 14, Bonanza 0 — At Bonanza, Letty Valenzuela tossed a six-inning one-hitter to lead the Aggies by the Bengals.
Kayla Stephens was 3-for-3 with two doubles and four runs, and Karli Lehr was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and three runs for Arbor View. Meredith Hall was 2-for-4 for the Aggies.
Tech 15, Chaparral 8 — At Tech, Kimmie Rodriguez hit a two-run home run and scored three runs, and the Roadrunners broke a 6-6 tie with a nine-run sixth inning on their way to a win over the Cowboys.
Chaparral, which had just one hit, but took advantage of 20 walks, scored six runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game.
Las Vegas 17, Basic 2 — At Basic, Brooke Booth was 3-for-4 with a grand slam and five RBIs as the Wildcats routed the Wolves in five innings.
Kristina Nelson tossed a two-hitter and struck out 14 for Las Vegas.
Sammy Taylor was 4-for-4 with a double and two runs for the Wildcats.
Moapa Valley 15, Desert Pines 0 — At Overton, Makendie Frei tossed a five-inning one-hitter and struck out seven as the Pirates topped the Jaguars.
The Pirates used an eight-run second inning to pull away.
Boulder City 26, Virgin Valley 4 — At Boulder City, Charlene Masterson went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and four RBIs, and the Eagles scored 15 runs in the second inning to power past the Bulldogs in five innings.
Alyssa Ybarra was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Nicole Schultz went 2-for-3 for Boulder City. Alex Frye was 2-for-4 for the Eagles.
Chianne Crandall went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Virgin Valley.
