SMALL-SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Huntsman, Panthers cruise into title game
Kennedy Huntsman tossed a six-inning two-hitter and went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and an RBI on Friday to help Pahranagat Valley’s softball team to an 11-1 victory over Indian Springs in the winners’ bracket final of the Division IV Southern League tournament.
Huntsman struck out seven and helped the host Panthers (21-4) earn a spot in the league title game at 10 a.m. Saturday, again against Indian Springs (9-8). Both teams qualify for next week’s state tournament.
Madison Harris was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and an RBI, and Bailee Hosier was 3-for-4 for Pahranagat Valley.
Indian Springs 10, Tonopah 3 — Caroline Stark was 3-for-5 with a double to help the Thunderbirds earn their way back to the title game.
Bria Galli went 2-for-3 with a double for the Muckers (3-10).
Tonopah 19, Sandy Valley 12 — Julia Klapper went 2-for-4 with two home runs and seven RBIs as the Muckers eliminated the Sidewinders (9-8).
Hunter Gonzales was 2-for-5 for Sandy Valley.
DIVISION III SOUTHERN LEAGUE
Paige Lewis and Kaci Rodriguez each went 2-for-4 with two RBIs as Needles defeated visiting Mountain View 11-6 in the Division III Southern League tournament.
Needles advances to play Lincoln County in the title game at 10 a.m. Needles would have to beat the Lynx twice to take the title.
Mountain View’s Savannah Alley was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Amanda Estores was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases for the Saints.
Mountain View 25, Laughlin 1 — Alley was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, four RBIs and a stolen base as the Saints beat the Cougars in five innings.
She also fired a two-hitter with eight strikeouts to get the win.
Estores went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and Ally Whiting had a two-run double for Mountain View.
