SOFTBALL: Ames’ RBI hoists Aggies in nine innings
Ashlyn Ames’ hit off the wall with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday scored Kayla Stephens for the game’s only run as Arbor View’s softball team nipped visiting Rancho, 1-0.
Kayla Stephens began the ninth with a single — just the Aggies’ second hit of the game. Dacia Sykes followed with a single to move Stephens to second before Ames’ hit.
Ames tossed a seven-hitter and walked three. She struck out 11.
Rancho’s Brandy Marlett allowed just four hits and fanned nine in nine innings.
Samantha Pochop and Tiare Lee each went 2-for-4 for the Rams.
Spring Valley 8, Basic 0 — At Basic, Michaela Hood tossed a no-hitter to help the Grizzlies blank the Wolves.
Raven Bierlein went 4-for-5 with a three-run homer and an RBI double for Spring Valley. Ellie Endsley was 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Grizzlies.
Sunrise Mountain 8, Mojave 2 — At Sunrise Mountain, Andrea Garner went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and tossed a four-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead the Miners by the Rattlers.
Natalie Sharp was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Alexus Aragon was 2-for-3 for Sunrise Mountain.
Tech 14, Western 3 — At Western, Jasmine Ramos and Ashley Ramsey each had a double and a triple to lead the Roadrunners by the Warriors in five innings.
Kimmie Rodriguez doubled twice for Tech.
Western’s Jennessa Dunton hit a solo home run and a double.
Eldorado 4, Bonanza 3 — At Eldorado, Kristie Thomas tossed a two-hitter and struck out eight to help the Sundevils down the Bengals.
Cheyenne 18, Virgin Valley 3 — At Mesquite, Taylor Cole went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and the Desert Shields used a 10-run second inning to rout the Bulldogs in the Desert Winds Tournament.
Destiny Gain was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Courtney Gain went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Cheyenne. Brittany Leeds was 2-for-4 with a double, and Italy Mora went 2-for-4 for the Desert Shields.
Cheyenne 8, Moapa Valley 8 — At Mesquite, Courtney Gain and Cole each went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and the Desert Shields scored the final eight runs of the game to earn a tie with the Pirates in a four-inning game that was called due to time limit in the Desert Winds Tournament.
Leeds was 2-for-3 for Cheyenne.
Haley Nielsen went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Moapa Valley.
Coronado 10, Peninsula (Calif.) 5 — At Torrance, Calif., Jillian James was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Jaiden Johnson went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs as the Cougars downed Peninsula in the Torrance National Tournament.
Dylan Underwood was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Danielle Amato went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Coronado.
Lakewood (Calif.) 8, Coronado 2 — At Torrance, Calif., Lakewood used a four-run fifth inning to top the Cougars in the Torrance National Tournament.
Johnson was 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Amato went 1-for-3 with an RBI for Coronado.
Centennial 5, Banning (Calif.) 2 — At Torrance, Calif,. Heather Bowen went 2-for-3 with a home run to lead the Bulldogs by Banning in the Torrance National Tournament.
Sonja Lawrence was 2-for-3 with two doubles for Centennial.
Jennifer Cerrone tossed a six-hitter for the Bulldogs.
Centennial 3, Redondo Union (Calif.) 2 — At Torrance, Calif., Lawrence singled home Ashley Ross with the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning as the Bulldogs edged Redondo Union in the Torrance National Tournament.
Cheyenne Cudahy spun a six-hitter for Centennial.
Millikan (Calif.) 10, Green Valley 0 — At Torrance, Calif., the Gators managed just one-hit in a four-inning loss to Millikan in the Torrance National Tournament.
Payton Stroppe and Sara Foster each went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Millikan.
Laughlin 6, Mountain View 5 — At Mountain View, Sydney Morgan hit a one-out fielder’s choice with the bases loaded to bring in Irania Becerra as the Cougars edged the Saints in five innings in the Spring Slam.
Cassie Beggs tossed a six-hitter for Laughlin.
Elle Germany was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Mountain View, which led 5-4 before giving up two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Laughlin 22, Indian Springs 4 — At Mountain View, Beggs pitched three scoreless innings and was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs to help the Cougars rout the Thunderbirds in four innings in the Spring Slam.
Katelynn Skillingstad added a double and two RBIs for Laughlin.
Indian Springs 15, Calvary Chapel 4 — At Mountain View, Hannah Thormahlen hit a three-run triple and scored two runs as the Thunderbirds beat the Lions in three innings in the Spring Slam.
The Meadows 22, Calvary Chapel 9 — At Mountain View, Dani Otter was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and the Mustangs used a 16-run third inning in a three-inning rout of the Lions in the Spring Slam.
Jacqui Adams had five strikeouts and went 3-for-3 with four RBIs for The Meadows.
The Meadows 32, Lake Mead 9 — At Mountain View, Adams had a double and three RBIs as the Mustangs blitzed the Eagles in four innings in the Spring Slam.
Missy Siegel hit a double and had four RBIs for The Meadows, which scored 16 runs in the first inning.
Lake Mead gave up 19 walks and committed 10 errors.
