SOFTBALL: Back-to-back homers lift Centennial past Wildcats

Heather Bowen and Savannah Horvath hit consecutive home runs in the fourth inning Friday to lift Centennial’s softball team to a 3-2 win over visiting Las Vegas.

Taylor Huntly and Kate Rauskin combined on a five-hitter for the Bulldogs.

Centennial senior Kassidy Merritt, who nearly two years ago was diagnosed with a brain tumor, started and grounded out in her lone at-bat.

Brooke Booth was 1-for-2 with an RBI for Las Vegas. Kristina Nelson tossed a five-hitter with eight strikeouts for the Wildcats.

Coronado 8, Cheyenne 3 — At Coronado, Kiley Harrison went 4-for-4 with a run, and the Cougars scored five runs in the sixth to break a 3-3 tie and beat the Desert Shields.

Kendell Sauter went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Nicole Hardy was 2-for-3 with two runs for Coronado.

Vanessa Sanders was 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Taylor Cole went 2-for-3 for Cheyenne.

Faith Lutheran 10, Desert Pines 0 — At Faith Lutheran, Stacie Graham tossed a five-inning three-hitter and struck out seven as the Crusaders topped the Jaguars.

Mandy Young was 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Lauryn Lipe was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Faith Lutheran.

Eldorado 13, Mojave 3 — At Eldorado, Keelyn Pacheco went 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored to power the Sundevils over the Rattlers.

Madalyn Bonilla finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs for Eldorado.

Danette Daguiar went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run for Mojave.

Lincoln County 17-20, Calvary Chapel 4-7 — At West Flamingo Park, Kaylee Teel went 4-for-7 with a home run and a double in the Lynx’s doubleheader sweep of the Lions.

The two wins gave Lincoln County a share of the Division III Southern League title with Needles, but the Lynx won the tiebreaker for the No. 1 seed by virtue of their victory over Needles in the second meeting.

Teel, Elle Scott and Easton Tingey all homered in the opener for the Lynx. Scott finished 2-for-3, and Teel was 2-for-4.

Bailey Free tripled and homered, and Jessica Shoup was 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the second game for Lincoln County.

The Meadows 14-14, Lake Mead 12-4 — At The Meadows, senior Katie Magness went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs in the second game to help the Mustangs sweep the Eagles.

Amber Peterson went 2-for-5 with three runs to lead The Meadows in Game 1.

Lake Mead’s Taylor Badua-Kono finished 6-for-7 with a double and a run in the doubleheader.

Pahranagat Valley 7-11, Tonopah 6-1 — At Alamo, Cheyenne Harris ripped a game-winning two-out single to left field in the bottom of the ninth inning in the opener as the Panthers swept the Muckers.

Harris’ hit plated Merinna Scott with the winning run. Bailee Hosier finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the first game.

Randi Jones had a triple, a home run and two RBIs for the Panthers in the six-inning nightcap.

Deanna VanPoucke belted a home run in the first game and supplied a double in the second game for Tonopah.
