SOFTBALL: Davis steals home, Wildcats top Skyhawks
Marico Davis stole home as part of a double steal with no outs in the top of the eighth inning Wednesday, and Arienn Ackerman added an RBI double later in the inning to help Las Vegas High’s softball team to a 6-4 win at Silverado.
Serina Ramirez started the eighth with a single to left, and Davis came on as a pinch-runner. Davis moved to third on Cheyenne Porcella’s single before scoring on the steal of home.
Samantha Taylor was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Ackerman went 2-for-4 with two doubles for the Wildcats, who trailed 4-1 before extending the game with three runs in the top of the seventh. Melina Fabian was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Las Vegas.
Madison Sisco was 2-for-4 with a third-inning grand slam for the Skyhawks.
Liberty 5, Valley 3 — At Valley, Kelsey Camat-Toki went 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs and an RBI, and the Patriots scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to down the Vikings.
McKenna Hefley was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs for Liberty.
Gabriella Morales was 3-for-4 with a run, and Kristina Manthei went 2-for-4 with an RBI to pace Valley.
Bishop Gorman 10, Legacy 5 — At Legacy, Jasmine Gibson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an RBI single, and Ashley Witucki was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs as the Gaels downed the Longhorns.
Gorman scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead for good after trailing 5-4.
Alyssa Sotelo was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Legacy.
Chaparral 6, Tech 1 — At Rodeo Park, Ellie Horton was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs to help the Cowboys beat the Roadrunners.
Crystal Clark was 2-for-4 with a double, and winning pitcher Losi Brown went 2-for-3 for Chaparral, which scored twice in the fifth to break a scoreless tie.
Haylee Makue-Vasconcellos was 2-for-3 for Tech.
Boulder City 6, Moapa Valley 3 — At Boulder City, Lily Osman went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to help the Eagles top the Pirates.
Bryanna Lopez was 2-for-3, and winning pitcher Charlene Masterson tossed a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts for Boulder City.
Kyla Shumway belted a two-run home run for Moapa Valley.
Sunrise Mountain 18, Desert Pines 5 — At Desert Pines, Andrea Garner went 3-for-3 with a triple, two doubles and two RBIs, and Sara Kinsey went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs as the Miners routed the Jaguars in five innings.
Denise Terzoli was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Monica Fears went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for Sunrise Mountain. Klarissa Hernandez was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Miners.
Maiya Richardson was 3-for-3 with three doubles and three RBIs, and Amari August was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Desert Pines.
Virgin Valley 13, Del Sol 3 — At Mesquite, Adri Wakefield tossed a five-inning five-hitter to help the Bulldogs down the Dragons.
Kari Wakefield and Taylor Barnum each tripled for Virgin Valley, which used an eight-run fourth inning to put the game out of reach.
Durango 8, Basic 4 — At Durango, Kaitlyn O’Hearn was 4-for-4 with a home run to lead the Trailblazers by the Wolves.
Winning pitcher Trinity Valentine was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs, and Mallory Lawson was 2-for-4 with a double for Durango, which jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning.
Carlee Gettman went 2-for-3, and Alyssa Ferguson and Courtney Huff each went 2-for-4 for Basic.
Cheyenne 17, Canyon Springs 2 — At Cheyenne, Alexis Gojkovich went 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, two RBIs and three runs to help the Desert Shields to the five-inning win over the Pioneers.
Destiny Gain went 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs and three RBIs, and teammate Italy Mora was 3-for-3 with three RBIs for Cheyenne.
Alyssa Fata went the distance, allowing no earned runs on three hits, to get the win. Fata struck out five and walked four.
Emilee Kaye went 2-for-3 with a double for Canyon Springs.
Laughlin 17, Sandy Valley 4 — At Laughlin, Lori Morgan went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs as the Cougars routed the Sidewinders in five innings.
Teresa Chapa was 4-for-4 with two RBIs for Laughlin, and Asuncion Mandujano threw a two-hitter to get the victory.
