SOFTBALL: Dennis’ RBI single lifts Mustangs by Aggies in eight innings
Kate Dennis’ two-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning plated Samantha Milanovich with the winning run as Shadow Ridge’s softball team earned at least a share of the Division I Sunset League title with a 2-1 win over visiting Arbor View on Monday.
Shelbi Denman tossed a no-hitter and struck out eight for the Mustangs, who broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of sixth inning before Arbor View scored on a wild pitch to tie the game in the seventh.
Shadow Ridge’s Shae Clements was 2-for-3 with a triple, and Dennis was 2-for-4.
Cimarron-Memorial 12, Bishop Gorman 7 — At Cimarron, Sumiko Tipton hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the second inning to lead the Spartans past the Gaels.
Rosie Del Rosario went 4-for-5 with a double, and teammate Diona Whitely went 4-for-5 for Cimarron.
Ashley Witucki went 2-for-2 with two walks for Gorman.
Sierra Vista 13, Clark 0 — At Clark, Harmony Dominguez pitched a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 11 and walking just two, as the Mountain Lions eased past the Chargers.
Dominguez also went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Mia Buranamonti was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs for Sierra Vista, which led 9-0 after one inning.
Spring Valley 10, Western 0 — At Spring Valley, Michaela Hood and Raven Bierlein combined on a fone-hitter as the Grizzlies secured at least a share of the Division I-A Sunset League title with a five-inning win over the Warriors.
Teegan Teal was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Kelsey Adams went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs for Spring Valley, which led 7-0 after one inning.
Bierlein went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Stephanie Huff was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for the Grizzlies.
Centennial 6, Durango 0 — At Centennial, Jennifer Cerrone spun a six-hitter and struck out four to lead the Bulldogs by the Trailblazers.
Hannah Jones was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Stephanie Day went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Centennial. Brianna Benoit was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Bulldogs.
Madisyn Conriquez was 2-for-3 for Durango.
Desert Oasis 14, Legacy 7 — At Desert Oasis, Meaghan McInerney went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs, and the Diamondbacks scored 11 runs in the first inning on their way to a win over the Longhorns.
Gemma Perez was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, two runs and three RBIs, and teammate Makayla Rickard went 2-for-3 with a triple for Desert Oasis.
Legacy’s Amanda Sink was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs, and Clarissa Lona and Alyssa Sotelo each went 2-for-4 for the Longhorns.
Pahrump Valley 13, Mojave 3 — At Mojave, Evandy Murphy had two doubles to lead the Trojans past the Rattlers.
Lauren Koenig also doubled for Pahrump, which scored five runs in the top of the second inning to erase an early 3-0 deficit.
Faith Lutheran 12, Cheyenne 0 — At Faith Lutheran, Calleen Ryan s
pun a two-hitter and struck out seven to lead the Crusaders by the Desert Shields in five innings.
Erin Gilchrist was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, and Kailee Myxter
went 1-for-1 with two runs and an RBI for Faith Lutheran.
Palo Verde 17, Bonanza 0 — At Palo Verde, Kendall Hopkins threw a three-hitter and struck out six as the Panthers routed the Bengals in five innings.
Veronica Santana was 3-for-4, and Alyson Snelling went 2-for-3 with two doubles for Palo Verde. Lauryn Barker and McKenzie Ryan each went 2-for-3 for Palo Verde, which got home runs from Caitlin Oxford and Cara Beatty.
