SOFTBALL: Gaels knock off top-ranked Palo Verde
Ashley Witucki, Megan Coyle and Morgan Blanner each had two hits Wednesday to help host Bishop Gorman’s softball team upset top-ranked Palo Verde, 5-3.
Gorman’s Darian Pancirov allowed 10 hits, but worked out of trouble after being spotted a 4-1 lead through three innings.
Makall Whetten, Grace Chavez and Allyson Snelling each doubled and singled for the Panthers, who also got two hits from Cara Beatty.
Spring Valley 12, Cheyenne 0 — At Spring Valley, Raven Bierlein tossed a five-inning perfect game with seven strikeouts on 68 pitches, and was 2-for-3 with an RBI double as the Grizzlies blanked the Desert Shields.
Stephanie Huff went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run, and teammate Michaela Hood finished 2-for-2 with three runs for Spring Valley, which led 8-0 after two innings.
Mariah Ward went 2-for-2, and Teegan Teal supplied a two-run single for the Grizzlies.
Tech 5, Sunrise Mountain 1 — At Sunrise Mountain, Gizele Cascos tossed a three-hitter and struck out 13 to lead the Roadrunners by the Miners.
Vanessa Villalobos was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, and Julia Lopez went 2-for-4 for Tech.
Jessica Carlson was 2-for-3 for Sunrise Mountain.
Shadow Ridge 11, Cimarron-Memorial 1 — At Shadow Ridge, Shelbi Dennis tossed a two-hitter with six strikeouts to help propel the Mustangs to a six-inning win over the Spartans.
Raelyn Kendall smacked a two-run home run, and Alisha Schultz was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs for Shadow Ridge, which scored 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 1-1 tie.
Arbor View 12, Durango 2 — At Arbor View, Adriana Thomason smacked a three-run double, and Lileya Kebos and Alexis Presser each had a two-run double as the Aggies defeated the Trailblazers in five innings.
Terren Vinson was 2-for-3 with three runs, and winning pitcher Taylor Thomas struck out eight and was 2-for-3 with two runs for Arbor View.
Durango’s Trinity Valentine had a double and a home run.
Faith Lutheran 13, Western 0 — At Faith Lutheran, Samantha Jack went 3-for-3 with four RBIs to help the Crusaders down the Warriors in five innings.
Winning pitcher Mosie Foley was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Claire Peck went 2-for-2 with a home run for Faith Lutheran.
Foley and Caileen Ryan combined on a two-hitter for the Crusaders.
Sierra Vista 15, Mojave 1 — At Sierra Vista, Harmony Dominguez went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, and Daelynn Hilton was 3-for-3 with a double as the Mountain Lions defeated the Rattlers in five innings.
Winning pitcher Kalei Watkins and teammate Mia Buranamonti each went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Sierra Vista, which led 11-0 after three innings.
Emilee Mitton was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Mojave.
Pahrump Valley 21, Clark 0 — At Clark, Arianna Sandoval tossed a five-inning no-hitter with five strikeouts to lead the Trojans by the Chargers.
Jessica Pearson was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Sandoval went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Pahrump.
Remington Nicosia was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Alyvia Briscoe homered for the Trojans..
Centennial 21, Desert Oasis 7 — At Desert Oasis, Ava Dolan went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, and winning pitcher Hannah Jones was 2-for-6 with a home run, a double and four RBIs as the Bulldogs defeated the Diamondbacks.
Stephanie Day went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs and five RBIs, and Brianna Benoit was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs for Centennial, which scored five runs in the top of the seventh.
Desert Oasis’ Maggie Shepard was 3-for-4 with two runs, and Elsy Guzman was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for the Diamondbacks.
Legacy 21, Bonanza 4 — At Legacy, Amanda Sink went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, four runs and two RBIs to help the Longhorns rout the Bengals in five innings.
Braelin Brockway was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and four RBIs, and Clarissa Lona went 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs and four RBIs for Legacy. The Longhorns followed a 13-run first inning by scoring seven runs in the second.
Alyssa Spencer was 2-for-4 with two triples and three runs for Legacy.
Zowie Manuma was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and teammate Evalynn Sandoval went 3-for-3 with a triple for Bonanza.
