SOFTBALL: Gorrell, Las Vegas shut down Silverado

Skylar Gorrell threw a four-hitter and struck out five Thursday to lead Las Vegas High’s softball team to a 6-1 home victory over Silverado.

Arienn Ackerman was 2-for-3, and Sabrina Saldate went 2-for-4 for the Wildcats.

Alessandra Ponce was 2-for-4 with a double for the Skyhawks.

Moapa Valley 6, Virgin Valley 3 — At Mesquite, Daesha Stastny tossed a seven-hitter, striking out three without a walk and allowing three unearned runs, to lead the Pirates by the Bulldogs.

Aria Messer was 1-for-2 with two runs, and Lainey Cornwall went 1-for-3 with two runs for Moapa Valley.

Janella Fiso was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and teammate Calee Clem was 2-for-4 with a run for Virgin Valley.

Basic 9, Eldorado 0 — At Eldorado, Adriana Cruz had three hits to lead the Wolves by the Sundevils.

Sanoe Helenini added two RBIs for Basic.

Heather Holman and Veronica Velasquez each had two hits for Eldorado.

Coronado 17, Valley 1 — At Coronado, Sarah Pinkston was 4-for-4 with a triple and an RBI and pitched a four-hitter as the Cougars beat the Vikings in five innings.

Pinkston struck out 11 with one walk.

Tatum Spangler was 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs for Coronado.

Shannon Williams was 2-for-2 with a double and a run for Valley.

Green Valley 18, Canyon Springs 4 — At Canyon Springs, Gennie Simington went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs as the Gators routed the Pioneers in six innings.

Allie Lamb was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Christine Sarti went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Green Valley.

Jalen Jones went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Tyre Hilton and Cinthia Garcia each added two hits for the Gators.

Nadica Henderson was 1-for-1 with a triple, a run and an RBI for Canyon Springs.

Chaparral 17, Desert Pines 2 — At Chaparral, Alexis Montoya was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and four RBIs to lead the Cowboys to a five-inning win over the Jaguars.

Sara Living and Nayeli Rivas each went 1-for-2 with a double for Chaparral, which scored seven runs in the second inning and eight in the third.

Maiya Richardson was 1-for-2 for Desert Pines.

Boulder City 18, Del Sol 1 — At Del Sol, Bailey Bennett-Jordan tossed a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts and had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Eagles to a five-inning rout of the Dragons.

Kylee Hamel had two hits and two RBIs for Boulder City, which scored 12 runs in the fifth inning.

Alina Marruffo had two hits for Del Sol.
