SOFTBALL: Hood fires no-hitter with 13 strikeouts in Grizzlies win
Spring Valley’s Michaela Hood fired a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts as the Grizzlies beat host Mojave 17-0 in five innings on Tuesday.
Hood also went 2-for-4 with a grand slam.
Normandie Kniola was 2-for-4 with a triple, and Vanessa Morales-Ramos went 2-for-4 with a double for Spring Valley.
Sierra Vista 9, Cheyenne 0 — At Cheyenne, Kalei Watkins spun a three-hitter to lead the Mountain Lions over the Desert Shields.
Watkins struck out 14 with no walks.
Sierra Martinez was 3-for-4 with a two runs and an RBI for Sierra Vista, which scored all nine runs in the first three innings.
Shadow Ridge 5, Foothill 0 — At Foothill, Alisha Schultz went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and threw five shutout innings to lead the Mustangs over the Falcons.
Kate Dennis pitched two innings of scoreless relief, and Shadow Ridge took advantage of five errors by Foothill.
Green Valley 10, Legacy 0 — At Green Valley, Sabrina Piehr and Allie Lamb combined on a no-hitter as the Gators beat the Longhorns in six innings.
Piehr started and threw three hitless innings with four walks and one strikeout. Lamb struck out two and walked two in three innings.
Tara Hilton went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, five RBIs and three runs to lead the offense. Italia Reinoehl was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Lamb went 3-for-4 for the Gators.
Faith Lutheran 12, Clark 0 — At Clark, Lauren Beatty spun a two-hitter and struck out seven as the Crusaders blanked the Chargers in five innings.
Samantha Jack was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and teammate Breanna Hemphill went 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Faith Lutheran.
Kyhara Evenson was 2-for-2 for Clark.
Canyon Springs 14, Desert Pines 4 — At Canyon Springs, Lizet Rodarte fired a one-hitter and went 3-for-3 to help the Pioneers beat the Jaguars in five innings.
Emilee Kaye had a two-run triple, and Wendy Vargas went 3-for-3 for Canyon Springs, which led 8-1 after three innings.
Tech 16, Virgin Valley 6 — At Rodeo Park, Lisette Sanchez went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, and the Roadrunners broke a 6-6 tie by scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning against the Bulldogs.
Gizele Cascos had a two-run double to end the game due to the 10-run rule and also pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the victory.
Janella Fiso and Adri Wakefield each had a double for Virgin Valley.
Durango 12, Eldorado 2 — At Durango, Mallory Lawson went 3-for-4 with two three-run home runs and six RBIs as the Trailblazers routed the Sundevils.
Trinity Valentine spun a two-hitter for the win and was 3-for-3 with a solo homer and a double for Durango. Mykayla Cutone had four hits, and teammate Stephanie Huff added three hits for the Trailblazers.
Audrey Madrid had an RBI single for Eldorado.
Centennial 22, Basic 0 — At Basic, Maddie Jones tossed four innings of shutout ball and helped herself with two doubles as the Bulldogs routed the Wolves in five innings.
Jones gave up just four hits.
Kara Simpson hit a double and a two-run homer, and Angel Love homered and doubled for Centennial, which scored 12 runs in the fourth inning.
Pahrump Valley 13, Western 3 — At Pahrump, Jordan Egan was 2-for-3 with two homers and three RBIs to power the Trojans to the five-inning win over the Warriors.
Amaya Mendoza added a two-run home run for Pahrump, which scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Lake Mead 14-15, Beaver Dam 2-12 — At Tuscany Park, Josey White had five home runs, two doubles and nine RBIs to lead the Eagles to a sweep of the Diamondbacks.
Savannah Schmidt homered, and Kayla Freund had three singles and an RBI for Lake Mead.
White Pine 10, Pahranagat Valley 7 — At Alamo, Debra Kingston belted two two-run homers to power the Bobcats past the Panthers.
Kingston’s first home run keyed a six-run fifth inning for White Pine, which got two hits from Kadi Finicum.
Kaitlyn Davis finished 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and two RBIs for Pahranagat Valley.
Jamie Hansen, Madison Harris and Madalyn Taylor each added two hits for the Panthers.
