SOFTBALL: Maddox, Falcons rally for Desert Winds title
Sarah Maddox went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs Saturday to help Foothill’s softball team rally for an 8-6 win over Arbor View in the championship game of the Desert Winds Classic in Mesquite.
The Falcons trailed 6-4 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but Maddox’s two-run single tied the score, and Alexia Campbell had an RBI double to put Foothill ahead. Campbell was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Kaitlyn Enzweiler had a double and two RBIs for the Falcons.
Taylor Beaman went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs for Arbor View. Brittany Henricksen was 2-for-3, and Bryce Henricksen was 2-for-4 for the Aggies.
Legacy 16, Clark 1 — At Legacy, Kellie Nelson spun a five-inning no-hitter to lead the Longhorns by the Chargers.
Nelson struck out 11 and walked two.
Alyssa Sotelo was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs, and Eliza Rodriguez went 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI for Legacy. Lindsey Fishman went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Longhorns.
Liberty 8, Bishop Gorman 6 — At Gorman, Cody Petrie went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Patriots by the Gaels.
Marisa Olmos homered for Liberty.
Megan Coyle went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI for Gorman.
Spring Creek 9, Virgin Valley 8 — At Mesquite, the Spartans scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to rally past the Bulldogs in a five-inning game in the Desert Winds Classic.
Virgin Valley had just four hits, but scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to build a 7-4 lead.
Lowry 12, Cheyenne 2 — At Mesquite, Alyssa Dendary spun a six-inning five-hitter as the Buckaroos topped the Desert Shields in the Desert Winds Classic.
Alexis Gojkovich was 3-for-3 with a home run for Cheyenne.
