SOFTBALL: Pochop’s arm guides Rancho by Coronado
Sam Pochop tossed a five-hitter and struck out 12 on Thursday to lead Rancho’s softball team to a 1-0 win over visiting Coronado in a matchup of the top two teams in the Division I Sunrise League.
Gianna Carosone’s triple in the bottom of the third inning plated Jahnae Davis-Houston with the game’s only run.
Basia Query and Tatum Spangler each went 2-for-3 for the Cougars. Ashley Ward tossed a three-hitter for Coronado.
Durango 5, Faith Lutheran 4 – At Faith Lutheran, Brooke Alves’ RBI single with no outs in the top of the ninth inning plated Kaitlyn O’Hearn with the winning run as the Trailblazers edged the Crusaders.
Alvaes was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and O’Hearn went 2-for-4 with two doubles for Durango.
Claire Peck was 3-for-4 for Faith Lutheran.
Boulder City 9, Moapa Valley 0 — At Overton, Charlene Masterson spun a four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts, and was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to guide the Eagles to an easy win over the Pirates.
Jeanne Carmell went 4-for-4 for Boulder City, which got two hits from Kylee Hamel.
Devony Cooper finished 2-for-3 to lead Moapa Valley.
Foothill 16, Green Valley 8 — At Green Valley, Jazmine Dukes 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and six RBIs to help the Falcons down the Gators.
Sarah Maddox was 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs, and Alexis Farias was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Foothill.
Samantha Loving was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Tyre Hilton was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs for Green Valley.
Liberty 14, Silverado 4 — At Liberty, Marisa Olmos was 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs to help the Patriots down the Skyhawks in six innings.
Jasmine Gonzalez was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Kylie Hefley went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs for Liberty, which scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game.
McKenna Hefley was 2-for-4, and Cali Christopher went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for the Patriots.
Jaime Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a double, and Sarah Ford was 2-for-3 for Silverado.
Basic 14, Valley 4 — At Basic, Lexie Edmunds went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, and Bailey Cunanan finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs in the Wolves’ six-inning victory over the Vikings.
Adriana Cruz was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and Mikayla Berg was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for Basic, which scored in every inning.
Gabriella Morales was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Valley.
Tech 14, Chaparral 1 — At Chaparral, Ashlee Carratelli tossed a five-inning two-hitter as the Roadrunners routed the Cowboys.
Lisette Sanchez was 3-for-4 with four runs, and Haylee Makue-Vasconcellos was 3-for-4 for Tech.
Sierra Vista 19, Eldorado 3 — At Sierra Vista, Kalei Watkins was 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs, and Taylor DeGuzman went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs as the Mountain Lions used a 15-run second inning to cruise by the Sundevils in five innings.
Daelynn Hilton doubled twice for Sierra Vista. Madison Hiu was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Jamie Kalaau-Sunia went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Mountain Lions.
Kristie Thomas was 2-for-3 for Eldorado.
Virgin Valley 22, Del Sol 3 — At Del Sol, winning pitcher Savannah Price threw three no-hit innings and went 3-for-5 with two triples, a home run and six RBIs as the Bulldogs routed the Dragons in five innings.
Janella Fiso was 5-for-5 with two triples and three RBIs, and Calee Clem was 2-for-4 with four RBIs for Virgin Valley.
Saleena Quichocho was 1-for-2 with an RBI for Del Sol.
Las Vegas 24, Canyon Springs 3 — At Canyon Springs, Samantha Taylor went 5-for-5 with three RBIs to lead the Wildcats in a five-inning rout of the Pioneers.
Arienn Ackerman was 4-for-5 with a triple and five RBIs, and Sabrina Saldate went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs for Las Vegas.
Sunrise Mountain 15, Desert Pines 0 — At Sunrise Mountain, Andrea Garner tossed a five-inning two-hitter and struck out eight to lead the Miners by the Jaguars.
Garner was 2-for-3 with a triple and a double for Sunrise Mountain, which scored 11 runs in the second inning.
Zoey Ruiz was 3-for-3, and Jessica Carlson went 2-for-3 for the Miners.
Needles 18-23, Lake Mead 5-5 — At Tuscany Park, Brenna Chavez went 3-for-4 with two triples and an RBI in the opener as the Mustangs swept a pair of five-inning games from the Eagles.
Jayce Fragoso was 2-for-3 with a home run and a double in the opener for Needles.
Josey White was 3-for-3 with a home run, a triple, a double and three RBIs in the opener for Lake Mead.
Pahrump Valley 16, Cheyenne 12 — At Cheyenne, the Trojans defeated the Desert Shields in the completion of a game that was suspended last week due to rain.
