SOFTBALL: Spangler leads Coronado to win in Torrance tourney
Tatum Spangler went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs to help Coronado’s softball team to a 13-4 win over Frontier (Calif.) on Thursday in the Torrance National Tournament in Torrance, California.
Ashley Ward was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Jaiden Johnson was 2-for-4 with a home run for the Cougars.
Jillian James was 2-for-2 and scored four runs for Coronado.
Agoura (Calif.) 2, Coronado 1 — At Torrance, California, Lexy Mills tossed a two-hitter, and the Chargers plated a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip the Cougars in the Torrance National Tournament.
Spangler homered for Coronado. Ward allowed just six hits in taking the loss.
Golden Valley (Calif.) 6, Centennial 2 — At Torrance, California, Sophie Medellin and Tatyanah Castillo each homered to lead the Grizzlies by the Bulldogs in the Torrance National Tournament.
Angel Love went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Centennial.
La Serna (Calif.) 6, Centennial 3 — At Torrance, California, La Serna scored three runs in the top of the sixth to top the Bulldogs in the Torrance National Tournament.
Centennial’s Ava Dolan had a solo home run, and teammate Deanna Barrera was 1-for-3 with an RBI.l
Rancho 4, Liberty 1 — At Liberty, Samantha Pochop tossed a three-hitter to lead the Rams by the Patriots.
Yvette Sanchez was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Tiare Lee was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Rancho. Lily Gutierrez was 2-for-4 for the Rams.
Marisa Olmos was 2-for-3 with two triples for Liberty.
Shadow Ridge 5, Durango 2 — At Shadow Ridge, Alisha Schultz was 2-for-4 with a home run and combined with Mia Voges on a two-hitter to help the Mustangs defeat the Trailblazers.
Kate Dennis and Shelbi Denman each had two hits for Shadow Ridge, which got an RBI double from Raelyn Kendall.
Trinity Valentine had an RBI double for Durango.
Desert Oasis 7, Cimarron-Memorial 2 — At Desert Oasis, Elsy Guzman went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs and three RBIs to lead the Diamondbacks by the Spartans.
Holly Severance gave up one run over four innings to earn the win for Cimarron, which led 7-1 after five innings.
Kaeley Roldan was 2-for-4 with a double, and Cierra Davis also had a double for Cimarron.
Sierra Vista 8, Mojave 2 — At Mojave, Mia Buranamonti was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple as the Mountain Lions topped the Rattlers.
Anastasia Evans, Jessica Ortiz and Janysa Trujillo each had two hits for Mojave.
Faith Lutheran 10, Western 1 — At Western, Samantha Jack went 2-for-5 with two doubles, and the Crusaders scored six runs in the top of the fourth inning to down the Warriors.
Crusaders pitchers Haley Jack and Mosie Foley combined on the three-hitter.
Janessa Dunton was 2-for-3 with two doubles for Western.
Bishop Gorman 15, Legacy 4 — At Gorman, Ashley Witucki was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, three runs and an RBI as the Gaels downed the Longhorns in five innings.
Hayley Coreas was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Morgan Blanner was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs for Gorman. Megan Coyle was 2-for-3 with a double for the Gaels.
Arbor View 14, Bonanza 2 — At Arbor View, Taylor Thomas spun a five-inning three-hitter, and had a three-run double to power the Aggies by the Bengals.
Kellie Anderson was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, and teammate Terren Vinson supplied two hits for Arbor View.
Ashlee McKenna had two hits to pace Bonanza.
Pahrump Valley 14, Clark 3 — At Pahrump, Krista Toomer went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs in the Trojans’ five-inning victory over the Chargers.
Jessica Pearson and Jackie Stobbe also had doubles for Pahrump, which scored six runs in the first inning and five more in the second.
Toomer and Virginia Weir combined on a two-hitter for Pahrump.
Spring Valley 15, Cheyenne 0 — At Cheyenne, Michaela Hood tossed a five-inning one-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks as the Grizzlies blanked the Desert Shields.
Stephanie Huff was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run for Spring Valley, which got two hits apiece from Marlena Adras, Kelsey Adams and Teegan Teal.
Needles 12, Laughlin 0 — At Laughin, Brenna Chavez had two doubles as the Mustangs topped the Cougars in five innings.
Kaci Rodriguez worked around nine hits to pitch a shutout for Needles.
Brittany Schelper, Teresa Chapa, Ashley Jones and Carissa Wollerton each had two hits for Laughlin.
