3A SWIMMING: Boulder City boys, girls cruise to region titles
Boulder City’s boys and girls teams won every swimming event on Friday night to capture the Class 3A Southern Region titles at UNLV’s Buchanan Natatorium.
The Eagles were especially dominant in the girls meet, almost tripling the score of second-place Virgin Valley. Boulder City had 650 points, with the Bulldogs a distant second at 217½. Tech (210) was third, and Adelson School (204½) finished in fourth place.
Mandy Gebhart and Montana Lloyd each won two events to lead the Eagles.
Gebhart won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 50.18 seconds, and took the 500 freestyle in 4:56.43. Lloyd touched first in the 200 individual medley in 2:04.95 and won the 100 backstroke in 56.29.
Sarah Estes won the 50 freestyle (25.54), Rose Pouch took the 100 butterfly (59.66), Abby Sauerbrei won the 100 freestyle (54.08) and Aimee Garcia was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.84) for Boulder City, which won a fifth consecutive region title.
Tech’s Elle Renner kept it from being a clean sweep for the Eagles, claiming the diving title with 464.3 points.
On the boys side, Braden Klouse, A.J. Pouch and Paco Cuevas each won two events to power the Eagles to victory with 449 points. Tech was second with 259, and Cheyenne placed third with 205.
Klouse won the 200 freestyle in 1:47.89 and the 100 freestyle in 49.08. Pouch took the 200 individual medley in 1:54.6 and the 100 breaststroke in 57.38. Cuevas claimed the 100 butterfly in 52.65 and the 500 freestyle in 4:57.45.
Clayton Pendleton won the 50 freestyle in 22.99 seconds for Boulder City, and teammate Chandler Larson was first in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.18.
It was Boulder City’s second consecutive boys region title, and the school’s sixth in the last seven seasons.
Virgin Valley’s Oscar Colmenero took the diving event with 255.75 points.
