GIRLS SWIMMING: Grimes helps Centennial defeat Diamondbacks
Mckenzie Grimes won two individual events at Pavilion on Saturday to lead Centennial’s girls swimming team to a 163-130 win over Desert Oasis.
Grimes finished first in the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 14.3 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:19.34.
The Diamondbacks’ Karen Kurosawa won the 200 individual medley (2:19.65) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.21), and teammate Logan Kim took the 100 freestyle (1:02.97) and the 100 breaststroke (1:24.22).
Arbor View 199, Cimarron-Memorial 71 — At Pavilion, Alexis Domingo and Mikala Cvijanovich each won two individual events to lead the Aggies by the Spartans.
Domingo took the 100 freestyle (1:02.68) and the 100 backstroke (1:07.78), and Cvijanovich won the 100 butterfly (1:17.15) and the 100 breaststroke (1:22.15).
Cimarron’s Amina Bachir was first in the 50 freestyle (27.93) and the 500 freestyle (6:20.54).
Palo Verde 197, Shadow Ridge 114 — At Pavilion, Erin Emery captured two individual events as the Panthers topped the Mustangs.
Emery won the 200 individual medley in 2:16.67 and the 100 butterfly in 1:02.84.
Shadow Ridge’s Caroline Brereton won the 100 freestyle in 55.84 and the 500 freestyle in 5:19.34.
Faith Lutheran 209, Western 67 — At Pavilion, Rori Conners, Christine Cornish and Caroline Fortino won two individual events apiece as the Crusaders swam past the Warriors.
Conners took the 50 freestyle (25.83) and the 500 freestyle (5:23.25). Cornish won the 200 individual medley (2:39.49) and the 100 freestyle (1:03.46), and Fortino was first in the 100 butterfly (1:19.09) and the 100 breaststroke (1:25.49).
Sierra Vista 152, Clark 138 — At Municipal, Isabella Green won two individual events as the Mountain Lions edged the Chargers.
Green won the 200 individual medley in 2:21.70 and coasted to first in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.43.
Ingrid Tobar won the 100 butterfly (1:05.72) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.35) for Clark.
Tech 172, Virgin Valley 60 — At Municipal, Cassandra Halloway, Sophie Juschka and Leslie Ramos each won two individual events as the Roadrunners topped the Bulldogs.
Halloway won the 500 freestyle in 7:02.89 and the 100 backstroke in 1:17.97. Juschka was first in the 200 freestyle (2:33.76) and the 200 individual medley (2:56.19), and Ramos captured the 100 butterfly in 1:33.25 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:33.30.
Moapa Valley 123, Sunrise Mountain 111 — At Municipal, Alexis Sawyer was the lone double-winner for the Pirates in their victory over the Miners.
Sawyer captured the 50 freestyle (34.23) and the 100 freestyle (1:21.03).
Valley 132, Silverado 111 — At Heritage Park, Nathalie Martinez won two individual events to help the Vikings beat the Skyhawks.
Martinez was first in the 50 freestyle (27.31) and the 100 freestyle (59.58).
Eldorado 144, Liberty 103 — At Heritage Park, May Crawford and Stacey Cuevas each won two individual events as the Sundevils defeated the Patriots.
Crawford won the 50 freestyle in 28.44 and the 500 freestyle in 7:13.84. Cuevas was first in the 200 freestyle (2:22.46) and the 100 backstroke (1:11.53).
Maggie Powell finished first in two events for Liberty, taking the 200 individual medley in 2:37.02 and the 100 freestyle in 1:01.05.
Coronado 241, Basic 67 — At Heritage Park, Shyla Swan and Jordan Wunderli each won an individual event and finished second in another to help the Cougars ease past the Wolves.
Swan won the 50 freestyle (26.62) and was second in the 100 butterfly behind teammate Tayler Luna (1:02.26). Wunderli took the 500 freestyle (5:54.14) and was second in the 200 individual medley, which was won by Coronado’s Bayley Alvarez (2:27.34).
Green Valley 216, Canyon Springs 60 — At Pavilion, Elizabeth Clinch and Cassie McKercher won two individual events apiece in the Gators’ victory over the Pioneers.
Clinch rolled in the distance events, taking the 200 freestyle in 2:04.05 and the 500 freestyle in 5:29.64. McKercher was first in the 100 butterfly (1:04.77) and the 100 breaststroke (1:15.95).
Bishop Gorman 207, Bonanza 61 — At Pavilion, Anne Boodt, Rachel Boodt and Marley Maluafiti each won two individual events to lead the Gaels past the Bengals.
Anne Boodt was first in the 100 butterfly (1:02.06) and the 500 freestyle (5:27.34), while Rachel Boodt touched first in the 50 freestyle (26.31) and the 100 backstroke (1:17.87). Maluafiti doubled in the 100 freestyle (58.06) and the 100 breaststroke (1:17.87).
Legacy 165, Durango 99 — At Pavilion, Joelle Beachler was the meet’s only double-winner, as she took first in the 200 individual medley (2:29.00) and the 100 butterfly (1:08.84) to help the Longhorns beat the Trailblazers.
