TENNIS: Ben Gajardo leads Desert Oasis boys past Centennial

Ben Gajardo went 3-0 in singles Thursday to lead the Desert Oasis boys tennis team to a 13-5 road victory over Centennial in a Class 4A Sunset Region quarterfinal.

Caiden Jacob went 2-1 in singles, and the doubles team of Alejandro Romero and Clarenz Velasco went 2-1 for the Diamondbacks (9-4).

Raul Saucedo was 2-1 in singles, and the doubles team of Benjamin Siegel and Chase Kleinman also went 2-1 for Centennial, which finished 9-6.

Desert Oasis will play at Clark (15-1) in a semifinal at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Clark 12, Legacy 6 — At Clark, Justin Ong and Teo Tabar went 3-0 in doubles to lead the Chargers past the Longhorns in a Sunset Region quarterfinal.

Brayden Snyder and Willie Valdez-Grijalva finished 2-1 in singles for Legacy (6-9).

Bishop Gorman 14, Faith Lutheran 4 — At Gorman, Grant Rogers and Michael Connors went 3-0 in doubles to guide the Gaels over the Crusaders in a Sunset Region quarterfinal.

Maxwell Blum was 2-1 in singles to pace Faith Lutheran (12-6).

Gorman (14-1) travels to Palo Verde (14-0) for a semifinal match at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Palo Verde 15, Sierra Vista 3 — At Palo Verde, Michael Safbom, Jack Kostrinsky and Axel Botticelli each went 2-0 in singles as the Panthers coasted by the Mountain Lions in a Sunset Region quarterfinal.

The doubles teams of Brandon Sulzberg and Davis Waid, Sam Soderborg and Denim Richardson, and Noah Brandt and Hayden Huckfeldt each went 2-0 for Palo Verde.

Sierra Vista finished 6-8.

CLASS 4A SUNRISE REGION BOYS

Liberty 15, Rancho 3 — At Rancho, Kevin Blomquist was 3-0 in singles as the Patriots defeated the Rams in a Class 4A Sunrise Region quarterfinal.

Andrew Alves and Anjana Dissanayaka went 2-1 in doubles to lead Rancho.

Coronado 18, Eldorado 0 — At Coronado, Philip Potamitis was 3-0 in singles as the Cougars swept the Sundevils in a Sunrise Region quarterfinal.

Ethan Quandt and Sebastian Frace went 2-0 in doubles for Coronado (14-1), which will host Foothill (9-5) in a semifinal at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Eldorado finished 2-13.

CLASS 3A SOUTHERN REGION BOYS

Desert Pines 10, Moapa Valley 9 — At Desert Pines, the Jaguars had two doubles teams go 3-0 and topped the Pirates 31-23 in a tiebreaker in a Class 3A Southern Region quarterfinal.

Oscar Murillo went 3-0 in singles for Desert Pines, and the doubles teams of Adan Cano and Kevin Giron, and Jose Ruiz and Alfredo Murillo each went 3-0 for the Jaguars.

Moapa Valley finished 8-4.

Boulder City 18, Mojave 0 — At Boulder City, Andre Papas and Bretton Erlanger each went 2-0 in singles as the Eagles blanked the Rattlers in a Class 3A Southern Region quarterfinal.

Clayton Pendleton and Garrett Leavitt finished 2-0 in doubles for Boulder City (11-0), which hosts Desert Pines (14-5) in a semifinal at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Mojave finished 6-7.

Virgin Valley 11, Adelson School 7 — At Mesquite, Chris Cannon and Kameron Cox each went 3-0 in singles to help the Bulldogs beat the Lions in a Class 3A Southern Region quarterfinal.

The doubles pairing of Justin Kalb and Cameron Arato was 3-0 for Virgin Valley.

Ryan Rushton and Tyson Wilson were also 2-1 in doubles for Adelson School (8-5).

The Meadows 18, Tech 0 — At The Meadows, the Mustangs rolled past the Roadrunners.

The Meadows (14-1) will host Virgin Valley (11-3) in a semifinal at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Tech finished 4-7.

CLASS 4A SUNRISE REGION GIRLS

Valley 11, Foothill 7 — At Valley, Annelisa Laizure went 3-0 as the Vikings beat the Falcons in the Class 4A Sunrise Region girls tournament.

The doubles pairing of Caitlyn Stevenson and Maia Nelson posted a 3-0 mark for Foothill (5-8-1).

Valley (8-2-1) will host a semifinal at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The rest of the Sunrise girls quarterfinals are scheduled for Friday.
