BOYS TRACK: Las Vegas takes team title at Valley Relays
Aaron Johnson and Marlon Harrison each won an individual event and finished second in another to lead Las Vegas’ boys track and field team to the title at the Valley Relays on Saturday at Valley High.
Johnson was first in the long jump with a mark of 21 feet, 5 inches, nearly a foot ahead of Harrison, who was second at 20-5. Harrison won the triple jump at 43-11, with Johnson second.
Rashaad Hines, Cody Kludasch, Jordan Murrel and Cody Summer teamed to win the 400-meter relay (44.13) and the 800 relay (1:32.80) for the Wildcats.
Also, Cameron Fullow cleared 6-6 to win the high jump for Las Vegas, which scored 103.93 points to edge second-place Coronado (93.34). Pahrump Valley was third with 64.99 points.
Coronado was first in the 3,200 relay (8:39.87) and also won the shuttle hurdles relay (1:01.45). Durango crossed first in the sprint medley relay (3:44.56) and the distance medley relay (11:29.92).
Jeremy Albertson of Pahrump Valley won the shot put (44-5) and the discus (153-10).
Locals shine in California
At Arcadia, California, Silverado’s Elijah Toussaint won the long jump and was second in the high jump in the afternoon meet at the Arcadia Invitational.
Toussaint posted a mark of 24-4¾ to win the long jump by seven inches over his nearest competitor and cleared 6-5 in the high jump. He also was 10th in the triple jump (43-7¾).
Sunrise Mountain’s Musio Jimenez-Vazquez took first in the 800 at 1:54.20, edging the second-place runner by 16-hundreths of a second. Coronado’s Braeden Traficanti won the 300 hurdles in an impressive time of 38.52.
Centennial’s Tre Harley was third in the 400 (49.25).
