BOYS TRACK: McCarter’s big day helps Bonanza edge Desert Oasis
R.J. McCarter won three individual events Wednesday to lead host Bonanza’s boys track team to a 74-72 victory over Desert Oasis in a dual meet.
McCarter won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.1 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 42.0 and the high jump by clearing 6 feet. He also finished third in the long jump. Teammate Brandon Adams won the 1,600 (4:55.3) and the 3,200 (12:01.0) and ran anchor leg on the winning 3,200 relay team for the Bengals.
Nick Benham swept the throws, winning the shot put (48-8½) and the discus (169-1), for Desert Oasis. Seth Scoville was first in the long jump (21-6½) and the triple jump (44-9½) for the Diamondbacks.
Boulder City wins four-team meet
At Overton, Sebastian Balmer, Justus Greene and Samuel Gomez each won two individual events to help the Eagles to victory in a four-team meet.
Balmer won the 110 hurdles (18.20) and triple jump (38-4½). Greene took the long jump (16-8½) and the high jump (5-6). Gomez swept the throws, winning the discus (163-9) and shot put (50-4) for Boulder City, which finished with 94 points.
Clark was second with 83, followed by Cheyenne (52) and Moapa Valley (34).
Liam Jones won the 1,600 in 4:47.58 and the 3,200 in 10:27.35 to lead Clark, which swept the relays.
Cheyenne’s Ashton Lawson won the 100 (11.37) and 200 (23.06).
Hicks, Green Valley top Las Vegas
At Green Valley, Salvatore Hicks swept the throwing events to lead the Gators to an 89-57 victory over the Wildcats.
Hicks won the shot put with a mark of 45-2, and had a throw of 139-0 to win the discus for Green Valley.
Khari Butler won the long jump (20-11½) and finished second in the triple jump for the Gators.
Las Vegas’ Master Langston took first in the triple jump (42-2) and high jump (5-11).
Vikings top Rancho
At Valley, Donavan Johnson won the triple jump (39-2) and was second in the long jump to lead the Vikings to an 88-41 win over Rancho.
Valley’s Alejandro Duran won the 100 (11.2) and was third in the 200, and teammate Trayvion Mack-Burton won the 300 hurdles (46.2) and was third in the long jump.
Rancho’s William Jenkins won the discus (123-10) and shot put (42-5¼).
Trailblazers win three-team meet
At Durango, Jayson Johnson won three events to lead the Trailblazers to victory in a tri-meet.
Johnson won the 100 (11.1), 200 (22.8) and 400 (51.9) for Durango, which had 95 points. Cimarron-Memorial had 65½, and Quest Academy had 1½.
Frankie Bisacky won the 1,600 (4:44.8) and was second in the 800 for the Trailblazers, who swept the distance events.
Cimarron-Memorial’s Keiron Hatchett won the long jump (20-0) and triple jump (40-6), and teammate Dmitri Hill won the 110 hurdles (15.7) and 300 hurdles (39.8).
