Gator boys use depth to win Arbor View Invitational
Green Valley’s boys track team didn’t win a single event Friday.
The Gators, though, used their depth to rack up points and finish first of 23 teams in the Arbor View Invitational.
Green Valley, which had four second-place finishes, scored 82½ points. Silverado was second with 73, followed by Basic with 71 and Coronado with 65.
Lenny Rubi finished second in the 800-meter run and third in the 1,600 to help the Gators, who also got second-place efforts from Austin Rogers in the 1,600, Robert Lovelady in the 3,200 and from their 800 relay team.
Moapa Valley’s R.J. Hubert was the only athlete to win two individual events in the boys meet. Hubert won the 110 hurdles in 14.96 seconds and took the high jump by clearing 6 feet, 4 inches.
Faith Lutheran’s Mark Rubalcaba won the triple jump with an effort of 46-3¼ and was second in the 100.
Basic’s Frank Harris won the 200 in 22.31 and was second in the high jump.
Silverado’s Cody Hudson won the 300 hurdles in 39.75 and was second to Hubert in the 110 hurdles.
In the girls meet, Clarissa Maxey’s perfect night helped Faith Lutheran to the team title.
Maxey won three individual events and was part of a winning relay team as the Crusaders finished first of 19 scoring teams with 114.66 points. Arbor View was second with 109. Coronado took third with 86, three points more than Green Valley.
Maxey took the 100 in 11.88. the 200 in 25.01 and the 400 in 56.79. She also was a part of the Crusaders’ winning 1,600 relay team (4:08.85).
Also for Faith Lutheran, Cayla Nikodemus won the long jump (16-10), joined Maxey on the winning relay team and was second in the 100.
Coronado’s Charleen Jordan swept the hurdle events, winning the 100 hurdles in 14.92 and the 300 hurdles in 45.62.
Silverado’s Chase Jenkins won the 3,200 in 12:02.68 and was second in the 1,600.
Desert Oasis’ Tawny Rodriguez won the shot put with an effort of 37-0 and finished second in the discus.
