Kevin Burdalski vaults Coronado boys to Spring Break Invitational title
Kevin Burdalski cleared 13 feet, 3 inches to win the pole vault and help host Coronado’s boys track team to a first-place finish in the Spring Break Invitational on Wednesday.
Burdalski’s effort helped the Cougars sweep the top three spots in the pole vault and earn a team total of 114½ points. Sierra Vista was second with 107, followed by Pahrump Valley with 95½ and Centennial with 83.
Liberty’s Corey Moore and Desert Pines’ Jamel Brown each won two individual events.
Moore threw 183-1 to easily win the discus and took the shot put with a mark of 53-6.
Brown swept the hurdle events, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 15.88 seconds and the 300s in 40.59.
Sierra Vista’s Jordan Clayton won the 800 in 2:01.17 and ran on the winning 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams. The Mountain Lions’ Edgar Molina won the 400 (50.21) and joined Clayton on the 1,600 relay team.
In the girls meet, Kennedy Brace and Cheyenne Jones each had one first-place and one second-place finish in individual events to help Centennial to the team championship.
Brace won the 400 in 56.98 and was second in the 200, and Jones won the 100 hurdles in 15.79 and was second in the 300 hurdles.
Centennial finished with 131½ points. Coronado was second with 108½ with Sierra Vista third at 84, and White Pine fourth with 74.
Desert Pines’ Jazmin Felix won both distance events, taking the 1,600 in 5:26.14 and the 3,200 in 12:01.86.
Liberty’s Athiya Iese swept the throws, winning the shot put with an effort of 37-5 and throwing 118-9 to take the discus.
White Pine’s Lily Fullmer won the high jump (4-8) and triple jump (33-6¼).
