REGIONALS: Legacy’s Allgood, Crusaders’ Onyema, Bulldogs’ Johonnot post second wins

Legacy’s Avione Allgood, Faith Lutheran’s Krystal Onyema and Centennial’s Karli Johonnot all won their second field event on Friday to highlight the second day of the Sunrise and Sunset region track meets at Del Sol.

Allgood, winner of the girls Sunset Region shot put on Wednesday, completed her throwers double by winning the discus with a throw of 141 feet, 1 inch. Her throw broke her region and stadium records and ranks No. 38 in the country according to DyeStat.com.

Onyema, winner of the girls Sunset  triple jump on Wednesday, won the long jump in 17-2. Onyema narrowly outjumped Pahrump Valley’s Taylor McJunkin, who leaped 17-1½ and Durango’s Tiarra Beville, who placed third in 16-11½.

Johonnot won the girls Sunset high jump with a jump of 5-5 for her second win, following her pole vault victory Wednesday. Johonnot also was the fastest qualifier in the Sunset 100-meter hurdles and stayed on track for four individual wins. She was the No. 1 qualifier in the 300 hurdles on Wednesday.

Another double winner among the girls was Destanae Howerton-Davis of Canyon Springs. Davis, who won the Sunrise shot put on Wednesday, matched Allgood’s throwers double by winning the discus with a throw of 130-4.

Valley’s Krystal Wharton won the Sunrise long jump, and Las Vegas High’s Milana Jones won the Sunrise high jump.

The first running final of the day, the girls 3,200 relay, produced fast times and several minor upsets.

In the Sunset final, Centennial (9 minutes, 55.62 seconds) and Arbor View (9:57.89) were the first two teams in Southern Nevada to break 10 minutes in this season.

Cheyenne, which was seeded fourth, finished third (10:05.7), thanks to an outstanding second leg by J’Myah White, the defending state 800 meter champion. White was clocked, unofficially, in 2:15. Cheyenne qualified for state because its time was faster than the third-place time in the Sunrise.

The second upset came in the Sunrise race. Top seed Green Valley won the race in 10:07.35, but Coronado, seeded fifth, finished a close second (10:07.77), thanks to an outstanding anchor leg by Lauren Lucas, winner of Wednesday’s 3,200. Both teams qualified for state.

Centennial’s Nick Hartle (Sunset) and Del Sol’s Colin Smith (Sunrise) took the two boys 3,200 races.

Smith was challenged early by Green Valley’s Julius Kim and Silverado’s Dante Carter, who finished second and third and qualified for state. Hartle led wire to wire. Clark’s Jacob Naylor won the battle for the second ticket to state in Sunset.

Sunset boys field event winners on Friday were Arbor View’s Jordan Miller (shot put), Pahrump’s Alex Anderson (triple jump) and Faith Lutheran’s Jack Leavitt (pole vault).

Sunrise boys field event winners were Liberty’s Jordan Kapeli (shot put), Foothill’s Evan Roquemore (triple jump) and Chaparral’s Carlos Olague (pole vault).
