ROUNDUP: Edwards’ triple helps Pahrump boys to victory
Cavasio Edwards won three events to lift Pahrump Valley’s boys track and field team to victory in a three-team meet Tuesday at Bonanza.
Edwards won the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 8 inches, the long jump at 18-9½ and the triple jump at 39-8.
Pahrump won with 103 points, followed by Bonanza (72½) and Agassi Prep (9½).
Bonanza’s Jayveon Taylor won the 100-meter dash in 11.2 seconds and the 200 in 22.4.
Flippen leads Gators to victory
At Liberty, Marcus Flippen won the shot put at 44-0 and the discus at 111-5 to lead Green Valley to 82 points and a victory over Liberty (56) and Silverado (48).
Liberty’s Martin Ponce’ won the 800 (2:05.76) and 1,600 (4:41.09).
Silverado’s Dominic Smallwood took the long jump (21-2¼) and triple jump (43-3¾).
Cheyenne wins home meet
At Cheyenne, the Desert Shields swept the relays on the way to a tri-meet victory over Moapa Valley and Faith Lutheran.
Cheyenne finished with 68 points, followed by Moapa Valley (61) and Faith Lutheran (42).
Moapa Valley’s Brandon Johnson won the long jump (19-7) and triple jump (38-9).
Faith Lutheran had a pair of double-winners with D’Khari Hicks taking the 200 (22.7) and 400 (49.6), and J.R. Klagues winning the shot put (43-3) and discus (141-10).
Trio helps Chaparral past Eldorado
At Eldorado, Chaparral’s Toure’ Williams, James Bryant and William Hernandez each won two events to lead the Cowboys to a 90-51 victory over the Sundevils.
Williams won the 110 hurdles (15.8) and the 300 hurdles (44.7). Bryant took the high jump (5-10) and long jump (19-0), and Hernandez won the shot put (45-1) and discus (122-0).
Eldorado’s Eddie Esquivel won the 1,600 (5:03.5) and 3,200 (10:48.4).
Verdugo paces Wildcats
At Las Vegas, Antonio Verdugo won the shot put (47-5) and discus (128-1) to lead the Wildcats (81.33) over Valley (67), Virgin Valley (33.66) and Beaver Dam (Ariz.) (1).
Valley’s Kennedy Williams won the 100 (11.5) and high jump (6-0), and teammate Arphaxad Carroll was first in the long jump (19-7½) and triple jump (41-9½).
