ROUNDUP: Hotchkins helps Chaparral boys to Skyhawk Invitational title

Joeal Hotchkins won the 200-meter dash and long jump and was a close second in the 100 Saturday to help Chaparral’s boys win the Skyhawk Invitational track and field meet at Silverado.
The Cowboys scored 109 points to win the 18-team meet. Morse (Calif.) was second with 95.4. Green Valley took third with 89.
Hotchkins won the 200 in 21.63 seconds. His long jump effort of 21 feet, 5¾ inches was more than 6 inches better than his nearest competitor.
In the 100, Valley’s Garic Wharton took first in 10.73 with Hotckins right behind at 10.74.
Chaparral’s Robert Porter won the high jump, clearing 6-0.
The Cowboys also won the 400 (43.92) and 800 relays (1:28.11).
Green Valley had three individual winners and the winning 3,200 relay team (8:17.69). The Gators’ Julius Kim took the 3,200 in 10:00.84. Bryan Artmann’s effort of 13-6 easily captured the pole vault, and teammate Arion Molinaro won the discus with a throw of 163-4.
Silverado’s Ladale Jackson took the 400 in 49.34. The Skyhawks also won the 1,600 relay in 3:27.2.
Shadow Ridge’s Sam Mahar won the 800 in 2:01.91.
Valley’s Alex Collins captured the 1,600 in 4:31.04.
Foothill’s Evan Roquemore traveled 43-7½ to win the triple jump.
In the girls meet, Sherie Key swept the jumping events, winning the high jump (5-0), long jump (17-0½) and triple jump (35-7½) to lead Morse to the team title.
Morse had 98 points to top the 20-team field. Canyon Springs was second with 75, followed by Foothill with 57.
Bonanza’s Shirley Pitts and Legacy’s Avione Allgood each won twice.
Pitts took the 200 (25.69) and 400 (58.79). Allgood won the shot put (39-4½) and discus (132-8).
Canyon Springs’ Marica King won the 100 hurdles in 16.40. The Pioneers also had the winning 800 (1:47.27) and 1,600 (4:09.30) relay teams.
Foothill, which had the winning 3,200 relay team (10:26.43), got event wins from Denicia Rush in the 100 (12.49) and Leah Leedy in the 3,200 (11:42.92).
Valley’s Anne Underwood claimed the 800 in 2:27.13.
Shadow Ridge’s Michelle Schenck took the 1,600 in 5:30.69.
Las Vegas’ Breanna Melton won the 300 hurdles in 48.1.
Green Valley’s Taylor Frantom cleared 10-1 to take the pole vault.
Chaparral won the 400 relay (50.29).
