TRACK: Liberty’s Blake sets throwing records at Heitkotter Invitational
Liberty’s Ashlie Blake destroyed a pair of meet records and was named the Outstanding Female Athlete at the Heitkotter Invitational at Faith Lutheran on Saturday.
Blake’s mark of 50 feet, 5½ inches in the shot put was nearly 14 feet longer than the previous mark of 36-8½.
Blake also set the record in the discus with a throw of 153-6. The previous record was 106-0.
Foothill’s Drea Austin also set a pair of meet records, winning the 100-meter dash in 11.82 seconds and the 200 in 24.45.
Faith Lutheran’s Cayla Nikodemus set a record of 17-7 in the long jump and also won the high jump (5-0).
Sunrise Mountain had outstanding performances from Brittany Veal and Ebonique Diaz.
Veal won the 300 hurdles in 45.47 and was second in the 110 hurdles. Diaz won the 800 in 2:20.69 and was second in the 1,600. Both ran on the winning 1,600 relay team.
Arbor View’s Jocelyn Jordan set a meet record in the girls triple jump with a mark of 36-8.
Canyon Springs set a meet record in the 400 relay with a time of 49.52.
Arbor View’s Ivy Dobson was named the meet’s Outstanding Male Athlete.
Dobson broke his own meet record in the 100 with a time of 10.86. He also ran on the winning 400 and 800 relay teams. The Aggies set a meet record of 42.85 in the 400 relay.
Several other boys records fell. Bishop Gorman’s Randall Cunningham cleared 7 feet in the high jump, winning the event by a foot to set a new meet mark.
His teammate, Austin Nobis, set a meet record of 49.58 in the 400 and finished second in the 200.
Faith Lutheran’s Mark Rubalcaba set a record with a mark of 23-2½ in the long jump and finished second in the triple jump.
Silverado’s Dominic Smallwood set a record of 47-3½ in the triple jump, and finished second in the long jump.
His teammate, Ryan Crame, set a record of 22.21 in the 200.
Arbor View’s Cole Jones set a record in the 1,600 with a time of 4:29.31 and also was second in the 800. Dakota Jennings set a meet record of 146-10 in the discus for the Aggies.
Shadow Ridge’s Nick Oberdin set a record of 1:56.97 in the 800, Pahrump Valley’s Devon Montgomery set a meet mark in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.66, and Canyon Springs’ Demarcus Williams set a record in the 300 hurdles with a time of 39.68.
Gators take titles at Valley Relays
Kayla Anderson, Miranda Bradley and Sara Braverman each were part of two winning relays to lead Green Valley’s girls to the team title at the Valley Relays with 126 points.
Anderson was on the winning 800- and 1,600-meter relay teams. Bradley ran on the 1,600 relay and 1,200 hurdle relay teams, and Braverman was on the 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams.
The Gators also won the high jump and pole vault relays.
Valley (102) was second and Palo Verde (88) third.
In the boys meet, Alex Hicks, Justus Leadbetter and Anthony Durden each were on three winning relays as the Gators finished first with 114 points.
Hicks led Green Valley to wins in the long jump and triple jump relays, and also ran on the winning 1,600 relay.
Leadbetter was on the 800 and 1,600 relay teams and also helped the Gators in the long jump. Durden participated in the winning long jump and triple jump teams and also ran in the 800 relay.
Green Valley also captured titles in the 1,200 hurdle relay, the distance medley relay, the shot put relay and the discus relay.
Las Vegas finished second with 95 points, and Palo Verde was third with 63.
