GIRLS TRACK: Bonanza dominates field events in win over Clark
The Bonanza girls track team dominated the field events, securing the top three places in the discuss, long jump, pole vault and shot put Wednesday to edge Clark 63-61 in a home dual meet.
Bonanza’s Zowie Manuma won the discus with a throw of 97 feet, 2 inches and also took the shot put at 32-5½. Her discus distance was 30 feet longer than the next-best thrower, teammate Kamila Montenegro, who also placed second in the shot put.
Mia Rhodes won the 200-meter dash in 29.1 seconds for the Chargers. Rhodes also placed second in the 100.
Gwen Bernardinelli won the 1,600 (6:25.0) and 3,200 (14:14.7) for the Chargers.
McPherson-Kellog’s throwing leads Gaels to victory
At Faith Lutheran, Jill McPherson-Kellogg swept the throws to lead Bishop Gorman to victory in a three-team meet.
McPherson-Kellogg won the discus (116-8) and shot put (33-3¾) for the Gaels, who finished with 94 points. Faith Lutheran was second with 85 points, and The Meadows placed third with seven points.
Gwenavere Bobowicz also won the triple jump (34-0) and finished second in the long jump for Gorman.
Faith Lutheran’s Xori Green won the 100 (12.68) and 200 (27.36), and Bryanna Neagle won the 300 hurdles (51.46) and the high jump (5-5) for the Crusaders.
Virgin Valley wins four-team home meet
At Mesquite, Abbie Barnum won three events and tied for second in another to help the Bulldogs capture a four-team home meet.
Barnum won both the 100 hurdles (16.60) and 300 hurdles (48.10) by at least three seconds, and also took the high jump (4-10). The senior tied for second place in the 100 (13.1) for Virgin Valley, which finished with 151 points.
Chaparral was second with 62 points, followed by Western (33½) and Indian Springs (7½).
Bernice Fiso won the discus (92-10) and shot put (33-6½), and teammate Hailee Thornley took the long jump (12-2¼) and triple jump (25-0) for Virgin Valley.
Western’s Ana Edith San Juan Agustin won the 1,600 (6:10.1) and 3,200 (13:16.5).
