TRACK: Bonds, Badger help Centennial girls take first at Skyhawk Invite

Tiana Bonds had a perfect day Saturday, running away with both hurdle events and running a leg on two winning relay teams to help Centennial’s girls track team win the Skyhawk Invitational at Silverado.

The Bulldogs, who also got two individual event wins from Sydney Badger, led the 17-team field with 142½ points. Silverado was second with 98 points, followed by Palo Verde with 75.

Bonds won the 100-meter hurdles in 13.85 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 43.21. She also ran a leg on the Bulldogs’ winning 800 relay team and joined Badger on the victorious 1,600 relay unit.

Badger pulled away in her two individual events, winning both the 800 (2:15.3) and the 1,600 (4:59.04) by 10 seconds.

Foothill’s Drea Austin also won two individual events, taking the 100 in 11.97 and the 200 in 24.52.

In the boys meet, Dajour Braxton took two individual events to help the Bulldogs complete the team sweep.

Centennial had 174½ points. Canyon Springs was second with 110, followed by Silverado with 86.

Braxton narrowly defeated teammate George Espino in the 1,600 by winning in 4:23.58, while Espino finished in 4:24.56. Braxton also took the 3200 in 9:40.43.

Legacy’s Casey Hughes sprinted to wins in both the 100 (10.72) and 200 (21.63).

Canyon Springs’ Demarcus Walker swept the hurdle events, winning the 110 in 14.75 and the 300 in 39.25.

Foothill’s Dylan Weasa took both throwing events, with a mark of 51 feet, 6 inches in the shot put and 156-2 in the discus.

TU’UFULI WINS AT STANFORD — Liberty’s Reno Tu’ufuli won the discus as the Stanford Invitational on Saturday with a throw of 196-10.

That mark is the best in the nation this season according to dyestat.com.
