TRACK: Centennial sweeps Heitkotter team titles
Alexis Gourrier won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs Saturday to lead Centennial’s girls track team to the title at the Heitkotter Invitational at Faith Lutheran.
Gourier won the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 14.1 seconds, more than 18 seconds ahead of teammate Kayla Roberts, who was second.
She then took the 3,200 in a meet-record time of 11:30.52. Roberts was second in 12:07.79. Gourier was named the meet’s Outstanding Female Performer.
Centennial took the team title with 179 points. Arbor View was second with 102, followed by Coronado (78) and Silverado (75).
Talie Bonds won the 100 hurdles (15.83) and 300 hurdles (48.29), and teammate Kiana Falefitu took the shot put (35-10) for the Bulldogs.
Centennial also won the 3,200 relay (10:08.75).
Arbor View’s Madison Aldred won the 100 (12.5) and 200 (25.77). Silverado’s Micayla Kelley won the long jump (17 feet, 3 inches) and triple jump (35-6).
Savon Scarver won the 110 hurdles (15.49) and set a meet record in the 300 hurdles (39.47) to lead Centennial to the boys title. Scarver also ran a leg of the winning 400 relay for the Bulldogs, who finished with 144¼ points. Silverado was second with 123½, and Liberty finished third with 77.
The Bulldogs also won the 3,200 relay (8:33.34)
Silverado’s Devion Clayton won the 100 and 200, setting meet records in both, and was named the Male Outstanding Performer. He took the 100 in 10.76, and won the 200 in 22.12.
Faith Lutheran’s Chase Wood won the 800 (2:00.88) and 1,600 (4:25.78).
Desert Pines set a meet record in the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:24.87.
Liberty’s Devon Ecklund set a meet record in the pole vault with a mark of 14-7. His teammate, Cyrius Vea, set a meet record in the discus with a throw of 173-9.
MEADOWS INVITATIONAL
Austin Rogers won the 1,600 and 3,200 to lead Green Valley’s boys to the Division I/I-A team title at The Meadows Invitational.
Rogers took the 1,600 in 4:27.15, and won the 3,200 by more than 41 seconds with a time of 9:44.68.
The Gators also won the 1,600 relay, and finished with 154 points. Desert Oasis was second with 102, and Palo Verde was third with 85.
Palo Verde’s Daniel Patho took the 200 (22.8) and 400 (50.88). Samuel Gomez won the shot put (52-5) and discus (164-3), and Del Sol’s Jonathan Spearman won the long jump (21-3¼) and high jump (6-3).
Charleen Jordan and Deborah Grant each won two events to lead Green Valley’s girls to the Division I/I-A title with 171½ points. Palo Verde was second with 146, and Desert Oasis finished third with 102.
Jordan won the 100 hurdles (15.41) and 300 hurdles (46.35), and Grant won the 100 (12.94) and 200 (26.64).
Leanna Latimore won the 400 (1:01.7) for the Gators, and teammate Eboni Thomas was first in the triple jump (34-11½). Green Valley also won the 1,600 relay.
Palo Verde’s Emma Wahlenmaier was the only other double winner in the Division I/I-A girls meet, taking the 800 (2:28.09) and 1,600 (5:25.61).
Spring Mountain’s boys won three relays en route to the team title in Division III/IV. The Golden Eagles had 241 points. The Meadows was second with 83.
Calvary Chapel’s Shelbi Byrnes won the 100 hurdles (16.88) and 300 hurdles (50.77), and Isabel Coleman was first in the long jump (14-2¼) and triple jump (29-6) to lead the lions to the Division III/IV girls title with 139 points. Tonopah finished second with 95.
