TRACK: Gorman’s Vashti Cunningham posts nation’s top mark in girls high jump at Meadows meet
Bishop Gorman freshman Vashti Cunningham cleared 6-0 1/4 on Saturday to win the high jump at The Meadows Invitational.
Cunningham’s mark is the best in the country this year by a high school female, according to track website athletic.net.
Pahrump Valley won the girls meet with 132 points. Green Valley was second in the 23-team field with 105 points, followed by Faith Lutheran with 95.
Kaitlin Klem paced the Trojans, winning the 200-meter dash in 26.26 seconds and the triple jump with a mark of 35-6. Klem also was second in the 100 and the long jump.
Liberty’s Ashlie Blake won the discus (147-0) and shot put (48-1).
Five athletes each won one event to help Gorman take the boys team title with 91 points. Pahrump and Green Valley each had 70 points, and Rancho was fourth with 67.
Gorman’s Jackson Perry won the discus (140-9) and was second in the shot put (47-10).
Mojave’s Jalon Dean narrrowly missed winning two events. Dean took the 300 hurdles in 39.41. His time of 15.44 in the 110 hurdles was one-hundredth of a second behind Pahrump’s Devon Montgomery.
