VOLLEYBALL: First-place Panthers hold off Longhorns
Cole Wilson had 36 assists and nine digs to lead Palo Verde’s boys volleyball team to a 25-14, 25-15, 17-25, 26-24 victory over visiting Legacy on Friday.
Michael Simister added 17 kills, and teammate Parker Nelson notched 10 kills for the Panthers, who took over sole possession of first place in the Southwest League.
Anthony Delgado paced Legacy with 34 assists, nine digs and two blocks. Zaire Franklin had 13 kills and seven digs, and teammate Omari Wheeler recorded 11 kills and five blocks for the Longhorns.
Chaparral 3, Sunrise Mountain 1 — At Sunrise Mountain, Ben Kirschbaum had 13 kills to lead the Cowboys to a 25-12, 25-13, 22-25, 25-13 victory over the Miners.
Jose Chavez added eight kills for Chaparral.
Domeenic Mota had 12 kills and three aces to lead the Miners. Deshawn Johns added four kills and two blocks for Sunrise Mountain.
Valley 3, Las Vegas 0 — At Valley, Jared Marchello had eight kills to help the Vikings sweep the Wildcats, 25-21, 25-17, 25-14.
Rodney Quito posted seven kills and 13 digs, and teammate Marty Heavey had seven kills and eight digs for the Vikings.
Alex Sandoval added 26 assists, and Chase Fayeghi had 11 digs for Valley.
Silverado 3, Canyon Spring 0 — At Canyon Springs, Tyler Gralapp had eight kills to lead the Skyhawks past the Pioneers, 25-23, 25-15, 25-23.
Kris Coe had five kills, and teammate Cody Steckel added five kills, 23 assists and four digs for Silverado.
Maurice Hunter had five kills and five blocks to lead the Pioneers.
Gaspar Gonzalez had seven digs, and Edward Cromwell had 10 assists for Canyon Springs.
Shadow Ridge 3, Durango 0 — At Durango, N.J. Makaiwi had 20 assists and 12 digs to lead the Mustangs over the Trailblazers, 25-13, 25-22, 25-21.
A.J. Makaiwi had 20 digs for Shadow Ridge, and teammates Cody Heathcock and Quinn Peterson each added nine kills.
Jaylen Clark led Durango with 16 kills, 11 digs and one ace. Andre Shabazz had four kills and 23 assists for the Trailblazers, and teammate Nestor Eselu-Rumusod had seven digs.
Del Sol 3, Desert Pines 0 — At Del Sol, the Dragons rolled to a 25-16, 25-20, 25-16 win over the Jaguars.
Gerardo Corral had nine assists, three aces and two blocks for Desert Pines, and teammate Estanislao Lansangan had eight assists and two aces.
