VOLLEYBALL: Panthers top Aggies to move into first-place tie

Andrew Weston had 29 assists, and Greg Kinney added 10 kills Tuesday as Palo Verde’s boys volleyball team moved into a tie for first place in the Northwest League with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-22 win at Arbor View.

Brigham Clawson added nine kills, and Michael Simister had eight kills for the Panthers, who joined the Aggies at 8-1 in league play and would clinch the league’s top seed for the Sunset Region playoffs with a win on Thursday.

Arbor View’s Chris Heron had 35 assists and three kills, and Darien Bradley added 11 kills and two digs for the Aggies.

Las Vegas 3, Rancho 1 — At Rancho, Chris Kampshoff finished with 20 kills and 20 digs, and Shayne Marquez had 52 assists and 10 digs in the Wildcats’ 25-15, 23-25, 25-20, 25-11 victory over the Rams.

T.J. Esporas added 16 kills, 15 digs and two aces, and Evan Kinard had 16 digs for Las Vegas.

Rancho’s Aaron Robles dished out 30 assists, Lamont Traylor had nine kills and Montef Hargrove notched eight kills for the Rams.

Chaparral 3, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Sunrise Mountain, Pierce Morgan had nine aces, seven kills and seven assists as the Cowboys captured the Sunrise League title with a 25-16, 25-11, 25-11 victory over the Miners.

Armando Zarate had two kills, two aces and 10 digs, and Josiah Wagge added seven digs, three kills and two aces for Chaparral.

Valley 3, Silverado 0 — At Silverado, Alex Sandoval had 24 assists to lead the Vikings to a 25-9, 25-19, 25-20 victory over the Skyhawks.

Matt Ballaro supplied 11 kills and nine digs, and Jesse Smith contributed six digs and five kills for Valley, which got eight kills and four blocks from Jack Heavey.

Silverado’s Austin Hunt had nine kills, and teammate Travis Houston had 11 digs. Kevin DuBoe added 10 digs or the Skyhawks.

Durango 3, Spring Valley 0 — At Spring Valley, Michael Diggins, Frank Patricio and Jaylen Clark each had nine kills to lead the Trailblazers to a 25-22, 25-16, 26-24 win over the Grizzlies.

Joshua Semmerling had four blocks for Durango.

Bradd Robison paced Spring Valley with 10 kills and 10 blocks. Troy Lance had six kills and six blocks, and Nick Purser added 12 assists for the Grizzlies.

Shadow Ridge 3, Sierra Vista 0 — At Shadow Ridge, Carter Johnson had eight kills to guide the Mustangs to a 25-23, 25-16, 25-19 victory over the Mountain Lions.

Nick Holman had five digs, and Christian Petersen added four digs and three kills for Shadow Ridge.

Clyde Balagtas supplied 14 kills and 10 digs, and Diego Gutierrez had 12 digs and eight kills to lead Sierra Vista.

Green Valley 3, Canyon Springs 0 — At Canyon Springs, Dustin Elliott had six aces, five digs and three killls, and Zachary Hewitt added 11 kills and two blocks as the Gators swept the Pioneers, 25-11, 25-13, 25-15.

Kyle Accardy had four aces and four digs for Green Valley.

Tech 3, Desert Pines 0 — At Desert Pines, the Roadrunners swept the Jaguars, 25-8, 25-15, 25-21.
