VOLLEYBALL: Valley boys rally past Skyhawks to capture Northeast title
Jack Heavey racked up 21 kills 10 digs and four blocks, and teammate Matt Ballaro had 13 kills and 11 digs Tuesday as Valley’s boys volleyball team clinched the Northeast League title by outlasting visiting Silverado, 25-22, 21-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-10.
Sean Carter had 44 assists and eight digs, and Lorenzo Capannolo added 10 kills and six digs for the Vikings, who got 19 digs from David Delaney.
Curtis Hadland had 37 kills for the Skyhawks. Bryan Skworzec supplied 56 assists and seven digs, and Joey Sharp-Halpin had 12 kills for Silverado.
Green Valley 3, Canyon Springs 1 — At Green Valley, Kenan Haywood finished with 17 kills, nine blocks and three digs, and Arvin Nitollama added 39 assists, nine digs and two aces in the Gators’ 25-15, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22 victory over the Pioneers.
Green Valley moved into a fourth-place tie in the Northeast League with Rancho. Those teams meet Thursday at Rancho, and the winner will clinch a berth in the Sunrise Region playoffs.
Isaac Wellish had 10 digs and six aces, and Tyler Topham chipped in with two kills and five digs for the Gators.
Immanuel Tufuga had 14 kills and six digs, and Burnadino Faulafo contributed 12 kills and five blocks to lead Canyon Springs. Carl Esteban notched 26 assists and seven digs, and teammate Jose Piedra added 21 digs for the Pioneers.
Las Vegas 3, Rancho 0 — At Las Vegas, Chris Kampshoff had 16 kills and 11 digs, and Evany Diaz dished out 27 assists to lead the Wildcats to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-16 sweep of the Rams.
Brian Singson had 11 kills and four digs, and Ryan Magante added six kills and seven digs for Las Vegas.
Aaron Robles led Rancho with four kills, 13 assists and five digs, and teammate Andrew Dittrich added four kills and two blocks.
Palo Verde 3, Arbor View 2 — At Palo Verde, Mitchell Tingey had 13 kills and 18 digs to lead the Panthers to a 25-22, 15-25, 24-26, 25-14, 15-5 win over the Aggies.
Andrew Weston had 42 assists for Palo Verde.
Chris Heron had 35 assists and 12 digs, and Peter Peck added 15 digs and two aces for Arbor View.
Shadow Ridge 3, Sierra Vista 0 — At Sierra Vista, Richard Sterling notched a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs to lead the Mustangs to a 25-18, 25-15, 25-18 sweep of the Mountain Lions.
Quinn Peterson added nine kills and five blocks for Shadow Ridge.
Julius Sison tallied 21 assists and 11 digs, and Clyde Balagtas finished with 14 digs to lead Sierra Vista.
Durango 3, Spring Valley 0 — At Durango, Pedro Abrego had 27 assists, seven digs and three kills, and Rontraye Rainey supplied five kills, eight digs and two aces to help the Trailblazers sweep the Grizzlies, 25-16, 26-18, 26-24.
Michael Diggins added seven kills for Durango.
Mojave 3, Cheyenne 0 — At Cheyenne, Jovan Carrazco dished out 36 assists, and Lemuel Dyck posted 15 digs and six aces as the Rattlers swept the Desert Shields, 25-12, 25-10, 25-11.
Darryl Miller-Green added eight kills and three blocks for Mojave.
Darius Gantt had three kills and two blocks, and Juan Valenzuela supplied three assists and two blocks for Cheyenne, which also got three blocks from John Pacheco.
Clark 3, Western 1 — At Western, Jeremy Bavers recorded 10 kills and nine blocks, and Walter Regalado added 24 assists and two aces in the Chargers’ 26-24, 17-25, 25-20, 25-19 victory over the Warriors.
Walt Benda chipped in with eight kills and four aces for Clark.
Vadell Wilson led Western with 17 kills and two blocks. Braeden Smith had 21 assists, three blocks, two aces and one kill for Western, and teammate Kaulen Buckley contributed seven kills and one ace.
