GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Western tops Sunrise Mountain, inches closer to playoff berth
Nikki Riggs supplied 10 assists and seven aces to lead Western’s girls volleyball team to a 25-16, 25-13, 18-25, 25-19 home victory over Sunrise Mountain on Wednesday.
Elaina Tillmond had five kills and five aces, and teammate Adriana Jones added four kills for Western, which moved into fourth place in the Class 3A Sunset League ahead of the Miners.
Mojave 3, Cheyenne 0 — At Mojave, Sua Estrada dished out 18 assists to power the Rattlers to a 26-24, 25-15, 25-18 victory over the Desert Shields.
Samantha Rebolledo and Jaianna Avilez each supplied 16 digs for Mojave.
Pahrump Valley 3, Desert Pines 0 — At Desert Pines, Alexis Trieb had 10 kills, and Angel Gibson added six kills to help the Trojans sweep the Jaguars, 25-9, 25-19, 25-7.
Jill Smith had 20 assists for Pahrump.
Vira Tavita led Desert Pines with four kills and four blocks. Ani’ya Manghum had two aces, and Martha Maya had two digs for the Jaguars.
Palo Verde 3, Arbor View 0 — At Palo Verde, Aaliah Largusa had nine kills, and Arien Fafard notched 12 assists, 12 digs and four kills in the Panthers’ 25-23, 25-22, 25-16 sweep of the Aggies.
Mia Sadler had 12 assists and six digs, and Makaya Truman added 19 digs for Palo Verde.
Alyson Jeeves had 24 assists to lead Arbor View. Makayla Snyder added seven kills, two aces and two blocks for the Aggies.
Centennial 3, Legacy 0 — At Legacy, Talie Bonds had 17 assists, seven kills and seven digs to help guide the Bulldogs to a 25-17, 27-25, 28-26 sweep of the Longhorns.
Danyale Berry tallied nine digs, eight blocks and six kills for Centennial, which got seven digs, six aces and six kills from Kara Combs.
Myah Maxwell had 12 digs and nine kills, and teammate Jazmyne Walker supplied 10 kills and five digs to pace Legacy.
Canyon Springs 3, Valley 1 — At Valley, the Pioneers defeated the Vikings.
Rebecca Barnosky led Valley with 12 assists. Tania Patricio added seven kills, and Michelle Burkhalter had six kills for the Vikings.
Sandy Valley 3, Somerset-Losee 0 — At Somerset-Losee, the Sidewinders defeated the Lions.
Sabrina Wright led Somerset-Losee with four aces. Wynter Bellah had three kills, and Morgan Dowdy added two digs for the Lions.
