ROUNDUP: Bulldogs make late statement in Durango Fall Classic

Centennial’s girls volleyball team made a statement Friday at the Durango Fall Classic.
It just took the Bulldogs a little longer than they might have liked.
Centennial won all three of its matches in pool play Friday at Foothill, taking each match to a decisive third set before pulling out a win.
The Bulldogs beat Buchanan (Calif.), 19-25, 27-25, 25-16, then downed Seaquam (Canada), 25-22, 24-26, 26-24.
In its final match of the night, Centennial handed Coronado a 25-23, 13-25, 25-21 setback.
Bishop Gorman also went 3-0 in its pool.
Playing at Durango, the Gaels beat the host school (25-15, 25-20), then downed Clovis (Calif.) by a 23-25, 25-17, 25-21 count, and beat Rim of the World (Calif.), 21-25, 25-14, 27-25.
Coronado and Silverado each went 2-1 in pool play.
Green Valley, the only Southern Nevada school among the 32 teams in the top group of the tournament, lost all three of its matches.
Bracket play begins Saturday morning with qualifying matches and continues at Durango, Foothill and Green Valley throughout the day.
Virgin Valley 3, Desert Pines 0 — At Desert Pines, Nicole Hafen’s 24 assists and six aces helped the Bulldogs to a 25-9, 25-12, 25-20 win over the Jaguars.
Rachel Morris added five kills and five aces for Virgin Valley.
Adriella Gbur had 10 digs, and Monica Estella and Jazzmin Avalos each served three aces for Desert Pines.
Boulder City 3, Moapa Valley 0 — At Boulder City, Avalon Frantz had 30 assists and eight aces as the Eagles swept the Pirates, 25-9, 25-10, 25-20.
Ali Rants had 20 digs and three aces, and Kayla Nix added five kills and five aces for Boulder City.
Lake Mead 2-2, Lincoln County 1-0 — At Lake Mead, Ashley Newton recorded 11 kills, nine digs, six aces and four blocks in the opener and 14 kills, six digs and five blocks in the finale as the Eagles swept the doubleheader from the Lynx, 25-19, 18-25, 15-11 and 25-15, 25-21.
In the opening match, Heather Hillenbrand added seven kills and six digs, and Anny Liston supplied eight digs and two aces for Lake Mead. Taylor Vetter dished out 10 assists for the Eagles in the first match.
In the nightcap, Hillenbrand supplied eight kills, four digs and three blocks, and Megan Watkins added 11 assists and five digs. Liston contributed 11 digs.
The Meadows 2-2, Mountain View 0-0 — At Mountain View, Alex Hall had four kills and three digs in the opener and two kills and seven digs in the nightcap as the Mustangs swept the Saints, 25-16, 25-14 and 25-19, 25-10.
Vanessa Hall had 10 assists, six digs and two kills in the first match and five assists, three aces and three digs in the second match for The Meadows. Jackie Lipkowitz added seven aces, five digs and two kills for the Mustangs in the second match.
Katelyn Krebs had 10 kills, eight blocks and three aces, and Amber Gomez supplied 12 kills, five blocks and two aces for Mountain View in the doubleheader.
 
Tonopah 3, Indian Springs 0 — At Tonopah, Sam Kimber put down seven kills, and Britney Klapper added 16 assists and seven aces as the Muchers rolled past the Thunderbirds, 25-6, 25-10, 25-16.
 
Deanna Van Poucke supplied five kills and four digs for Tonopah. Amanda O’Donnell added five kills and three aces, and Harley Maughan and Ashley Eason each contributed four digs for the Muckers.
