VOLLEYBALL: Eagles earn sweep, postseason berth

Rachael Watkins had seven assists and five digs in the opener and 10 assists, two aces and two digs in the nightcap Friday as Lake Mead’s girls volleyball team clinched the final spot in the Division III Southern League playoffs with a 25-13, 25-5 and 25-13, 25-14 sweep of visiting Agassi Prep.

The Eagles’ sweep, combined with The Meadows’ sweep of Needles, allowed Lake Mead to earn the No. 4 seed for the league tournament.

In the first match, Shannon Regan added four kills and three aces, and Alayna Lippert had 13 digs and four aces for Lake Mead, which got 12 digs from Jenette Hensley.

In the finale, Taylor Webb had three kills, seven aces and four digs, and Hensley added six digs and three aces for the Eagles, who got three kills apiece from Regan and Savannah Schmidt.

The Meadows 2-2, Needles 0-0 — At The Meadows, Lena Schulhofer had 12 assists, eight digs and three aces in the opener, and 13 assists in the finale as The Meadows swept Needles, 25-11, 25-16 and 25-9, 25-12.

In the first match, Brooke Brennan had six kills, five digs and two aces, and Elyse Burns had seven digs for The Meadows, which got two aces from Dani Otter.

In the second match, Brennan had six kills, and Missy Siegel added four kills for The Meadows, which got 10 digs from Divya Ramakrishnan and three aces from Amber Peterson.

Sandy Valley 3, Round Mountain 1 — At Sandy Valley, the Sidewinders secured the final spot in the Division IV Southern League playoffs with a 25-11, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20 win over the Knights.

Indian Springs 3, Beaver Dam (Ariz.) 0 — At Indian Springs, the Thunderbirds posted a 25-12, 25-13, 25-17 win over the Diamondbacks.
