VOLLEYBALL: Smith, Mustangs outlast Coronado
Ashley Smith had 21 kills and 15 digs on Thursday as Shadow Ridge’s girls volleyball team handed host Coronado its first loss of the season, 13-25, 25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 15-9.
Chloe Gruwell had 18 kills and 12 digs, and teammate Eadara Files added 48 assists and 12 digs for the Mustangs.
Cali Thompson led the Cougars with 56 assists and six digs. Berkeley Oblad added 18 kills, and Navi Lee had 15 kills, two aces and 15 digs for Coronado, which got 10 kills from Nikki Jackson.
Silverado 3, Green Valley 1 — At Green Valley, Mackenzie Carter and Holly Messmer each had seven kills to lead the Skyhawks to a 25-22, 13-25, 25-16, 25-15 win over the Gators.
Carter added 10 digs, and Messmer had three blocks. Cyrene Solomon added 18 assists for Silverado.
Julia Carlson led Green Valley with 14 kills and two aces. Emily Flowers added six kills and seven digs, and Paige Schultz had five kills for the Gators.
Foothill 3, Centennial 1 — At Foothill, Rebecca Hill had 14 kills, 12 digs and two blocks, and Olivia Stet added 11 kills and 16 digs to power the Falcons to a 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22 win over the Bulldogs.
Christina Beaver had 44 assists, 19 digs and three aces, and Elizabeth Rosenberg supplied 10 kills, five digs, two blocks and two aces for Foothill.
Bailey Anderson had 16 kills, eight digs and two aces, and Kjersten Saunders added 13 kills and 13 digs for Centennial. Hannah Hitchcock contributed 19 assists, 10 digs and two aces, and teammate Alyssa Lucas had 10 digs for the Bulldogs.
Basic 3, Liberty 1 — At Liberty, Christina Kelley had six kills, three aces, 17 assists and 10 digs to lead the Wolves to a 25-16, 23-25, 25-13, 25-12 victory over the Patriots.
Kali Weires added nine kills, three blocks and six digs for Basic.
Erica Martinez led Liberty with 14 digs, and teammate Morgan Husli had four aces.
Tech 3, Chaparral 1 — At Chaparral, Katherine Hernandez had 11 kills, 15 digs and three aces to lead the Roadrunners to a 23-25, 25-5, 25-15, 25-23 victory over the Cowboys.
Samantha Backman added nine assists and 11 kills, and teammate Ashlee Hare had 11 digs and three assists for Tech.
Rancho 3, Valley 0 — At Valley, Danielle Carino had 12 kills, and Karime Raygoza added nine kills and nine digs to lead the Rams to a 25-9, 25-15, 25-15 victory over the Vikings.
JeCori Gladney provided 12 assists, and Patricia Choi had 13 digs to lead Valley.
Arbor View 3, Legacy 0 — At Arbor View, Hannah Goddard had 10 kills, eight aces and two blocks as the Aggies swept the Longhorns 25-14, 25-14, 25-20 to retain the Bullhead Trophy in the annual Battle of the Bulls.
Sarah Goddard had six kills and two aces, and Jenna McClure added 27 assists and five aces for Arbor View. Karli Beas had three aces and 12 digs, and Kasey Kershaw had two kills and four blocks for the Aggies.
Eldorado 3, Canyon Springs 0 — At Eldorado, Abigail Olsen had five kills and 23 assists to help the Sundevils to a 25-21, 25-14, 25-21 sweep of the Pioneers.
Tori Stark added eight kills, and Kiana Parkes had nine digs for Eldorado.
Atiyah Ware had four kills, and teammate Andreya Diaz-Conklin added four assists for Canyon Springs.
Boulder City 3, Del Sol 0 — At Del Sol, the Eagles were 25-13, 25-10, 25-12 winners over the Dragons.
Del Sol’s Azhwalaee Oliver had five kills, 12 digs and two blocks, and teammate Christy Patinio added 21 digs.
Mountain View 2-2, Adelson School 0-0 — At Mountain View, the Saints swept a pair of matches, 25-19, 25-15 and 25-13, 25-20.
Aariel Armstrong led Mountain View with seven kills and 11 aces, and teammate Rose Adkins added five kills.
Postponed matches — Virgin Valley’s match at Sunrise Mountain and Moapa Valley’s home match against Desert Pines both were postponed because of ongoing repair on Interstate 15. The matches have not yet been rescheduled.
