Karst, Barber propel Centennial to Bulldog Grappler crown

Jordan Karst won the heavyweight flight, and teammate Chase Barber was first at 195 pounds Saturday to help host Centennial’s wrestling team claim the title at the Bulldog Grappler.

The Bulldogs topped the 20-team field with 176 points. Liberty, which got flight titles from Michael Sanchez (120), Colin Schultz (152) and Connor Watanabe (160), was second with 159½ points. Virgin

Valley took third with 148½, followed by Shadow Ridge with 142 and Foothill with 107.

Virgin Valley, Coronado and Foothill also claimed two flight titles each.

Hunter Woods (132) and Brock Smith (145) finished first for Virgin Valley.

Jonathan Blanco (126) and Mack Murphy (220) claimed titles for Coronado.

Damien Ortega (106) and Jacob Ozuna (182) won for Foothill.

Also finishing first were: Durango’s Daniel Caswell (113), Shadow Ridge’s Dustin Van Riel (138), and Legacy’s Brandon Sorenson (170).

Sanchez was named the event’s most valuable lower-weight wrestler, and Karst earned most valuable higher-weight wrestler honors.
