ROUNDUP: One-point victory in final match lifts Cowboys past Vikings
Heavyweight DeMarco Bradford pulled out a 3-2 win in the final match Wednesday to help host Chaparral’s wrestling team edge Valley, 36-35.
The Cowboys trailed 35-33 entering Bradford’s match.
Shane Striegel (112 pounds), Gerard Whitfield (125), Ruben Thammagongsa (130) and Duron Phoenix (145) each won by pin for Chaparral, and Sean Cantor was a winner by decision at 135.
Desert Pines 39, Eldorado 38 — At Eldorado, Desert Pines recorded six pins and won one decision to nip the Sundevils.
Andrew Huibregtse (103), Cole Price (135), DeAndre Smith (171) and Michael Williams (285) won by pin for Eldorado. Sergio Lopez (112), David Silvey (119) and Fernando Duran-Price (145) also collected wins.
Centennial 63, Legacy 17 — At Centennial, six Bulldogs won by pin in a victory over the Longhorns.
Brady Worden (125), Anthony Robone (130), Marcus Jackson (135), Spencer Worden (145), Austin Scarlett (171) and Lawrence Easley (189) each recorded a pin for Centennial.
Scarlett had the quickest pin, winning in 53 seconds.
Spring Valley 45, Bishop Gorman 25 — At Spring Valley, Rasheem Waters earned a pin in 20 seconds in the 145-pound match to lead the Grizzlies over the Gaels.
Spring Valley’s Fritz Mijares (112), Ryan Brenkus (135), Rashad Waters (160) and Steve Haunga (285) also had pins.
Spring Valley 45, Durango 21 — At Spring Valley, Haunga needed only 20 seconds to pin his opponent in the heavyweight class as the Grizzlies won nine of the 10 heaviest classes to defeat the Trailblazers.
Also recording pins for the Grizzlies were Brenkus (135), Andrew Lopez (152), Steve Bejarano (189) and Juan Portillo (215).
Alan Chan (130), Rasheem Waters (145), Rashad Waters (160) and Eric Lopez (171) won decisions.
Bishop Gorman 46, Durango 34 — At Spring Valley, the Gaels won seven matches by pin to beat the Trailblazers.
Gorman’s Devin Dolby (112), Henry Bradley (125), Jason Auschwitz (130), Tommy Field (140), Steven Hernandez (145), Johnny Field (171) and Mike Hutchings (285) had pins.
Las Vegas 72, Canyon Springs 9 — At Rancho, the Wildcats had 11 pins and routed the Pioneers.
Las Vegas’ Nathan Garcia (103), De’Armon Hall (112), Brett Sampson (119), Hugo Carrillo (125), Joseph Stratman (130), Jeremy Dailey (140), Ronald McCullough (152), Johnathan Hales (171), David Prieto (189), Trey McElhaney (215) and Austin Woo (285) recorded pins.
Las Vegas 72, Rancho 9 — At Rancho, the Wildcats took advantage of eight forfeits to defeat the Rams.
Prieto (189), McElhaney (215) and Woo (285) had pins for Las Vegas. McElhaney’s fall took just 14 seconds.
Cheyenne 39, Mojave 30 — At Mojave, the Desert Shields had five pins and won three matches by forfeit to beat the defending state champs.
Cimarron-Memorial 61, Mojave 9 — At Mojave, the Spartans won easily as the Rattlers forfeited six matches.
Cimarron’s Jason Schuele (140) and Aaron Garcia (189) had pins.
Arbor View 41, Palo Verde 25 — At Shadow Ridge, the Aggies had four pins to beat the Panthers.
Palo Verde 43, Shadow Ridge 25 — At Shadow Ridge, the Panthers had three pins to bounce back from an earlier loss to Arbor View.
Shadow Ridge 39, Arbor View 33 — At Shadow Ridge, the host Mustangs surged ahead on heavyweight Amari Carter’s 6-4 overtime win.
Shadow Ridge had four pins.
Green Valley 35, Foothill 19 — At Foothill, the Gators won the four heaviest weight classes on the way to the win.
Heavyweight Nathan Thomas capped the win with Green Valley’s only pin.
