Swarm of small earthquakes continues in northwestern Arizona

LITTLEFIELD, Ariz. — A recent swarm of small earthquakes in a sparsely populated area of extreme northwestern Arizona near Nevada and Utah is continuing.

The Arizona Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.4 earthquake occurred at 2:23 a.m. Friday about 37 miles southeast of Littlefield in Mohave County.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Trish Carter said there have been no immediate reports of damage or injury.

Friday’s quake was larger than 19 recent quakes that began March 29 and continued through earlier this week. The others have ranged from magnitude 0.7 to magnitude 2.6.

A quake of magnitude 2.5 to 3 is the smallest generally felt by people.

The Arizona Geological Survey said the area has several active faults and that its geologic features suggest there could be additional potentially active faults.
