Farewell to a well-liked, respected Las Vegas attorney
Well-liked and respected Las Vegas attorney Vincent Consul died Thursday, collapsing while he was running. He was 57.
His easy-going ways earned him many friends, and my heart goes out to his family, especially his son, Michael, and his daughter, Lauren.
I’ve known VInce since he was a criminal prosecutor with the U.S. attorney’s office, from 1983 to 1985, and still remember his wedding, where he danced with joy with his bride, Mary. When his two children were born, Vince was the ultimate proud papa.
Consul was a former president of the State Bar of Nevada from 2005 to 2006 and half a dozen presdents who worked with him issued a statement saying, "Our profession and our community were enriched by his leadership, his commitment to professionalism and his contributions as a volunteer. He epitomized all that is great in our profession — both inside and outside the courtroom — highly competent, superb advocate, always prepared, insightful, delightfully witty, yet respectful of all."
A parnter at Boies, Schiller and Flexner, Consul had been a deputy district attorney and an assistant U.S. attorney before entering private practice in 1985.
The news of his death sparked shock that this delightful man was no longer with us, along with memories of his decency and his sense of fun.
