Las Vegas city engineer named public works chief
The city of Las Vegas has promoted longtime City Engineer David Bowers to public works director.
He will oversee an annual $80 million budget and nearly 250 employees in three divisions under public works: city engineering, traffic and environmental
Bowers was recently responsible for management of engineering, architectural, surveying, construction management and special improvement sections, and was involved in budgeting and scheduling of more than 100 capital improvement projects.
After joining the city in 2005, Bowers held a variety of positions, including program manager and assistant city engineer, and was responsible for direct management of development of the new City Hall, Fremont East and Symphony Park.
He also served as the city’s full-time lobbyist in the 2009 and 2011 Nevada legislative sessions.
Bowers will receive an annual salary of $147,114 plus benefits, an increase from his $120,682 salary in 2013.
He replaces Jorge Cervantes, who is now the city’s executive director of community development.
