Nevada reports 232 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths

Nevada on Monday reported 232 new cases of COVID-19 and no additional deaths over the previous day, continuing a downward trend in both measurements of the disease.

Figures posted by the Department of Health and Human Services on the state coronavirus website raised the case total for the state to 76,036, while the number of deaths stood at 1,531.

Meanwhile, Clark County reported 128 new cases and no additional deaths. Total reported cases in the county number 64,288. The number of total fatalities, 1,328, showed a decline of one since the preceding day.

“There was a duplicate identified and the information has been corrected,” said a spokeswoman for the Southern Nevada Health District.

The positivity rate in Nevada, which reflects either the percentage of people testing positive or the percentage of positive tests, has increased slightly in recent days.

Statewide, the seven-day average of people testing positive for the new coronavirus is 11 percent, and the cumulative percentage since the start of the pandemic is 11.4 percent, according to a Review-Journal analysis.

The state, which calculates its positivity rate based on the number of tests administered rather than people tested, reported on its website a seven-day average of 7 percent and a cumulative rate of 10 percent. The state’s methodology yields lower figures because many people get tested multiple times, increasing the numbers upon which the percentages are based, which in turn lowers the percentages.

Hospitalizations, another key indicator, continue to trend downward, according to the Nevada Hospital Association.

“Nevada continues to see a gradual declining trajectory in COVID-19 hospitalizations without any appreciated resurgence as a result of the Labor Day holiday,” according to a report on the association’s website.

Statewide, COVID-19 cases represent 10 percent of all hospitalizations and 22 percent of intensive care admissions.
