Semitrailer crash near Strip causes power outage
Six people were rescued from Signature Towers elevators after a crash caused a power outage Saturday afternoon.
A semitrailer crashed into a power box about 12:20 p.m. at Audrie Street and Harmon Avenue, causing a large fire and power outage at the Signature Towers at 145 E. Harmon Ave., Clark County Fire Department spokesman Greg Cassell said.
There were no injuries because of the crash, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Grant Rogers said.
The power outage stopped the hotel’s elevators and the Fire Department rescued six people from four of them. As of 2:30 p.m., the hotel’s power had been restored and the elevators were functioning normally, Cassell said.
The crash happened beneath the Las Vegas Monorail, causing it to temporarily shut down, Cassell said.
NV Energy’s website reported 578 customers were out of power near the crash and listed the outage’s cause as “motor vehicle accident.”
The traffic lights at the Audrie Street and Harmon Avenue intersection and at Harmon Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard were temporarily out, but have since been restored power.
As of 3 p.m., all power had been fully restored.
