Tahoe resort fined $10k for pool discharge

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — A South Lake Tahoe resort owner has been fined $10,000 for illegally dumping up to 20,000 gallons of chlorinated pool water into a stream environment zone.

California state environmental regulators launched an investigation this summer after the Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort self-reported the June 25 incident near Ski Run Boulevard.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency issued the formal fine this week to Diamond Resorts International, a publicly traded resort chain based in Las Vegas.

Diamond Resorts lawyer Benjamin La Luzerne told the Tahoe Daily Tribune that he felt the punishment was fair, given the importance of protecting Lake Tahoe.

The company fired three employees responsible for the dumping and has adopted new protocols to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
