Tuberculosis case investigated at Coronado High School
An individual at Coronado High School has been diagnosed with contagious pulmonary tuberculosis, according to the Southern Nevada Health District.
The school notified parents Tuesday of the case. The case is an isolated incident, according to the letter sent by email, and the individual “has not been on campus recently.”
In 2011, Coronado enrolled more than 3,000 students, according to its accountability report, and is one of the largest schools in the Clark County School District.
Aside from the infected person, no students or staff members at the school on Coronado Center Drive, near Horizon Ridge Parkway, have shown signs of TB, the letter said.
The Health District will conduct voluntary testing at the school during normal school hours starting Nov. 19 and will run until Nov. 21, the letter said.
Health District staffers are working to identify students and staff who will require further testing due to their contact with the individual, according to the letter.
Jennifer Sizemore, spokeswoman for the Health District, would not confirm if the individual was a student at the school.
This case is not related to the recent two TB deaths involving Summerlin Hospital, Sizemore said.
About 70 and 80 cases of TB are reported to the Health District each year, Sizemore said, including cases at schools that were not reported to local media.
