LETTER: Prisoners want to make the minimum wage?

Your Jan. 18 story on the lawsuit involving the minimum wage for prisoners was the best article I have read in a long time. I had a good laugh. If the prisoners want $15 an hour for the work they perform outside of the prison — which gets them out of confinement — then so be it. But if all us taxpayers have to cover their wages, then maybe the prison system should start charging them for room and board.

Let’s see, when I go out to eat, it’s usually $7.95 for breakfast, $8.95 for lunch and $22.95 for dinner. Oh, then there’s the rent for a studio apartment, $400-500 a month, and that’s cheap.

Maybe if the prison system started to charge each prisoner for room and board our taxes would go down and the prisons would start to make money.

LETTER: Sonia Sotomayor, retirement and race

Using race to justify or condemn the action of others is simply wrong and, some would say, the definition of racism. We are all one people.

LETTER: Is there another Joe Biden out there?

Both the front-runner presidential candidates should step aside and give us some choices who are younger and have fresh ideas to get us out of the $35 trillion debt.

LETTER: Deciphering progressive jargon

I noticed recently that euphemisms are commonly used by progressives in order to make the agenda they support seem less harsh or unpleasant.

LETTER: Biden ignores the Supreme Court on student loans

Biden is constantly harping on how Trump is a threat to democracy and will be a dictator, eliminating our freedoms. It is Biden, however, who has proven himself the dictator who is threatening democracy.

LETTER: More on 1968

As a cop who was at not only at the 1968 Democratic convention at the Conrad Hilton on Michigan Avenue, but also the Chicago arson fires on the west side, I feel there were many reasons why the city was a tinderbox.
