51s’ three-game winning streak ends on walk-off homer in 12th inning
Zack Thornton gave up a solo home run to Gregorio Petit with two outs in the 12th inning as the 51s saw their three-game winning streak end Friday night in a 6-5 Pacific Coast League loss at Oklahoma City.
Las Vegas (39-29), which was 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position, had runners on first and third with no outs in the 12th but didn’t score. Anthony Seratelli was tagged out in a rundown between third and home on a fielder’s choice by Josh Satin, Kirk Nieuwenhuis struck out and Cory Vaughn flied out.
The 51s led 5-4 with two outs in the ninth but couldn’t close out the game, as relief pitchers Miguel Socolovich, Scott Rice and John Church each issued a walk and threw a wild pitch — with the final one by Church allowing Austin Wates to score the tying run for the RedHawks (37-32).
Seratelli drilled a go-ahead two-run, two-out double in the seventh inning. Travis d’Arnaud hit his third homer in three games in the first, and Vaughn — whose father is former All-Star Greg Vaughn — belted a two-run blast in the third.
Henderson native Chasen Bradford, a Silverado High School product, allowed one hit and struck out two in two scoreless innings of relief for Las Vegas.
Also, the Mets released 51s third baseman Zach Lutz, who is headed to Japan to play for the Rakuten Eagles. The 28-year-old batted .291 with seven home runs and 37 RBIs this season for Las Vegas.
New York optioned Rice, a left-hander, to the 51s.
