Four more players with local ties taken in MLB Draft

Four players with Las Vegas ties were selected Friday on the second day of the Major League Baseball Draft.

Arizona junior second baseman Johnny Field, a Bishop Gorman High School graduate, went in the fifth round to the Tampa Bay Rays. He was the 22nd pick of the round and No. 158 selection overall.

UNLV junior right-handed pitcher Buddy Borden, an Arbor View High product, was taken in the seventh round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Mountain West co-pitcher of the year went 13th in the round and 209th overall.

Two College of Southern Nevada freshmen also were drafted — second baseman Evan Van Hoosier and left-handed pitcher Thomas Pannone. Van Hoosier, a Green Valley High grad, was 24th in the eighth round and No. 250 overall. Pannone was chosen fifth in the ninth round and No. 261 overall.
