An inauspicious debut
Stephen Curry’s NBA debut was not exactly memorable as the Golden State rookie guard started slow, picked up the pace early in the second half, then struggled at the end as the Warriors fell to Houston, 73-69, at Cox Pavilion as the 2009 NBA Summer League tipped off.
Curry started out 1 for 6 from the floor and at one point, had more fouls (4) than points (3). But he made three in a row in the third quarter and finished with 16 points on 4 for 14 shooting.
Curry didn’t seem too worried about it.
“I think when you haven’t played in a real game in awhile and you’re learning a new system, that’s going to happen,” Curry said of his hot-and-cold shooting. “The thing is reading my teammates and learning to move without the ball. It’ll get better.”
The Warriors’ Anthony Randolph led all scorers with 20 points. James White led Houston with 14.
Chasing his dream
Former Arizona forward Chase Budinger looked good playing for the Rockets, scoring 11 points and grabbing five rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.
Fashion statement?
Warriors coach Don Nelson was sporting an urban look, if you will Friday as he had a hip-hop-style black Warriors T-shirt instead of his standard golf shirt.
At 69, Nellie might want to rethink his attire.
